Athletics Carnival 2023
Monday the 31 July saw our whole college community head to Bill Stewart Athletics Track in Burwood East for our Athletics Carnival. With the Sun shining on a cold winters day a convoy of buses arrives with students dressed in house colours ready to compete for the new house cup.
The day started with a new novelty event, the ‘Gumboot Throw’, which proved to be a popular start to the day. As the day continued, students participated across track and field events with the annual teacher versus student relay race concluding the program, seeing the Year 12 students take out the blue ribbon.
Our Year 12 students dressed for the event participating in the best dressed parade. Congratulations to Giovanni Von Heiderbrandt of Year 12 who was awarded best dressed according to the crowd vote. In addition, Harper Bennet Year 7, Aurora Hodgson Year 8, Lachlan McTaggart Year 10 and Atasha Aiolupotea Year 11, were awarded best dressed for their respective houses.
After spending the day in the lead, Sutherland took out the house cup with a total of 985.5 points, followed by Dunlop, Bradman and Chisholm.
Students who achieved a first or second place on the day, will be offered a place to participate in the district athletics.
Congratulation to all staff and students on a fantastic 2023 House Athletics Carnival.

Year 9 Physical Education
Our Year 9 students have ‘swung’ themselves into some fun and creative activities, creating a mini golf putt – of course, aiming for a hole-in-one. This task involves students putting their creativity hats on to come up with a theme for their mini golf course. The students will be working together in groups of 2-3 to design their masterpieces. Students will need to work as a team and develop their collaborative skills to ensure they can get a hole-in-one.
This week, the classes had a practice run at creating a course where they had two minutes to collect as much equipment as they could and then five minutes to create a putting hole. They all came up with brilliant ideas and it was wonderful to watch them use their putting skills.
We look forward to seeing the courses the Year 9 can come up with later in the term.

Intermediate Basketball
On Thursday 10 August, Mr Goss and a pre-service teacher took a group of students to the Dandenong Basketball Stadium for the Intermediate Inter-School Basketball.
We entered 3 teams into the competition: a mixed team, a Year 9 boys’ team, and a Year 10 boys’ team. I played in the Year 10 boys’ team, and we played a total of 6 games overall. Each game had two 10-minute halves, so the games were relatively quick. Unfortunately, we only had 1 sub for most of the day, and finished with no subs. We won 3 of our games, beating two of the Boronia K-12 College teams, and a Fairhills High School team.
