Prep
Welcome to Term 3, Week 8.
We are powering through the term and getting closer to the next school holidays which begin on Friday 15 September. We have been very busy in prep and have continued our inquiry into the adaptation of living things and their environments and to extend our knowledge, we went on an Excursion to the Werribee Zoo.
Reading
In reading we have been focusing on animals and their environments. We have been reading a variety of texts about our chosen animal and their habitat. Our students understand the usual format that reports contain, which includes an introduction and the main body with facts. What do living things need to survive? Where do they live? And what makes something living? are some of the questions our students have been answering. Reading information reports which are designed to convey factual information, has given our students the opportunity to learn important details about the living things they are interested in.
Students also had the opportunity to do a buddy teacher swap with Year 5 and 6 classes. During this session students shared their love for reading with their Year 5 and 6 buddy teachers and engaged in some exciting activities.
Book Week
Every year, our school comes alive with the magic of stories during the much-anticipated Book Week. This enchanting event celebrates the joy of reading, the power of imagination, and the wonderful world of literature. It's a time when students and staff come together to showcase their favourite book characters in a colourful and creative display of costumes and enthusiasm. During the Book Week Parade, our Prep students showcased their vibrant costumes in an unforgettable celebration. We are sure that this parade will leave a lasting impact on the hearts and minds of everyone involved.
Writing
Our students have been looking at information texts and have explored a range of topics about living things. We have been writing sentences using adjectives to describe our living things and their environments. Attending the zoo excursion helped to boost our writing topics and our learning of living things, in turn providing us additional sources of writing. An information report is a type of nonfiction writing that provides factual information about a specific topic. It is usually structured in a clear and organised manner, presenting information in a concise way. We are so proud of the Preps for creating effective and informative reports that they are sharing with their peers and buddies.
Maths
During our maths lessons, we have been extending our knowledge of time. We have had time to explore digital and analogue clocks and have had fun as we relate this to real life. We demonstrated our learning by making our own clocks and using chalk to show our understanding of the features of clocks and their purpose.
Zoo Excursion
What an exciting time we have been having in the Prep classrooms. After our amazing Science Week, we've had the opportunity to complete an excursion to the Werribee Open Range Zoo. The zoo excursion was a part of our Unit of Inquiry on ‘How the world works’. The students enjoyed some time exploring the animal habitats/exhibits throughout the zoo as well as attending an Education program called Habitat Heroes, and went on the bus tour and learnt more about the animals from the savannah. The students all enjoyed their time at the zoo with their teachers and peers and modelled principled and caring behaviours.
Happy Father's Day/Father Figure Day
Our Prep students were reflective writers this week when they engaged in writing about their important Fathers and Father Figures in their lives. We used the mentor text, “The Important Book,” to innovate and create a writing piece to share with our Father Figures.
To all our dads, fathers and father figures, we wish you a Happy Father's Day for this upcoming Sunday! 🎉 Your love, guidance, and support shapes our lives in the most wonderful ways. May your day be filled with love and appreciation. Enjoy your special day and we look forward to seeing you at school on Monday 4.9.23 for our learning celebration in our classrooms from 8.20am to 9am.
Preps Swimming Program
Our swimming program is drawing closer and we look forward to discussing and preparing our students for this upcoming exciting event. We know that learning to swim can boost students' confidence in water-related activities and provide them with opportunities for recreational enjoyment in the future. For some of our students, they might be learning more advanced swimming techniques, such as different strokes, diving, and turns in the water.
Our swimming program will run from Tuesday 5 September to Thursday 14 September. We look forward to watching our students learn how to swim and improving their water safety skills.
