Year Seven
Mathematics
Over the past month, our Year Seven Students have delved into the world of Pronumerals and explored the concepts of Algebra, including combining like terms and simplifying expressions. They have developed a solid foundation of equations and are mastering how to write equations from worded problems. The Algebra unit has presented our students with a series of challenges that encouraged them to think critically, analyse problems, and devise innovative solutions. They were highly engaged in class discussions and individual assessments and work collaboratively to apply the mathematical and algebraic mindset to solve real-life situations confidently. Throughout the course of this unit, our students have exhibited dedication, perseverance, and a genuine enthusiasm for learning Maths.
As our students move onto the next chapter of their mathematical journey, they will be exploring the domain of Geometry. Throughout the Geometry unit, our students will incorporate hands-on activities that enable them to interact with geometric concepts in a tangible and meaningful way. They will also discover the practical applications of Geometry in various fields, from Architecture to Design to everyday life. This unit not only challenges their intellect but also nurtures their visual reasoning and problem-solving skills, and they will have the chance to create their own artwork using geometric shapes.
Wood Technology
Over the course of the Term, Year Seven students have been busy working their way through the various stages of the Design Cycle and creating their designed solution the “Cerberus Lamp”. Students were provided a design brief which outlined the need for the lamp, some constraints and considerations when building the lamp, and other background information to build the solution.
With this information they then began using their knowledge of Safe Operating Procedures of various hand tools to create their lamp.
In the remaining weeks of the Term, Year Sevens will complete their lamp and evaluate their progress in order to identify their strengths and areas of improvement if they were to complete the project again.
Spanish
The scholars are thriving in their journey through Year Seven Spanish curriculum at Saltwater P-9 College. It's been an exciting term filled with wonderful learning experiences, and I am eager to share some highlights of your child's recent progress.
Present Tense Conjugations
In our Spanish language classes, students have been delving into the vibrant world of conjugations in the present tense. They've worked diligently to master the art of conjugating verbs to accurately describe actions happening right now. It's been incredible to witness their enthusiasm for exploring a new language and culture.
Weather and Seasons
As part of our integrated curriculum, students have been learning about how to identify weather and seasons and describing the activities they do in different weather using authentic Spanish expressions.
My House
In the realm of personal expression, our Year Seven students have embarked on a creative journey to describe their homes, including how to say different parts of the house and the activities they do in their house during their free time.
Term 3 Mid-Term Spanish Test
We're pleased to announce that our Year Seven students have successfully completed their Term 3 mid-term Spanish test. Their hard work and dedication have paid off, and we're confident that they will continue to excel in their Spanish language studies.
As we move forward into the remainder of the term, I look forward to witnessing even more growth, curiosity, and achievement from our students.
Humanities
Year Seven Students are working towards wrapping up their investigation in the use of water as a resource in our Geography unit. Students have researched facts around different water conservation techniques including desalination, transfer, and cloud seeding. We are now inviting students to contribute their own ideas to world of water conservation. Take a look at the below clip introducing their final piece of work in our unit...
Visual Communication
In this issue, we're thrilled to showcase the extraordinary talent of our Year Seven Visual Communications Students who have been exploring the intriguing technique of "frame within a frame" to capture moments of closure. This technique encourages photographers to think beyond the obvious, to find an encapsulating frame within their frame that adds depth and dimension to their compositions.
Below is an example of the 'Frame within a frame' concept.
