Year Five 

Dear Year 5 families,

With a fortnight left of the Term, we'd like to acknowledge the efforts and resilience of all our students. It's been a busy term with lots of learning and challenges that we've all persevered through. Let's finish this term off strong and prepare for Term 4, our final term together 

Unit of Inquiry

In Inquiry, students have begun our new unit of inqury: How We Organise Ourselves. Our central idea is 'Systems may be an important component of living an efficient life.' In this unit, students will explore these lines of inquiry:

An inquiry into how systems are designed. (FUNCTION)

An inquiry into the interconnectedness of human-made systems. (CONNECTION)

Writing 

In Writing,  students have been focussing on their text innovations in celebration of book week. They've used their creative writing skills to create their own texts inspired by a selected author. We're excited to publish these texts and celebrate their work on becoming authors.

Reading

In Reading, students have been learning to paraphrase different texts we read together and then applying it to their own reading. They've also focussed on their reading stamina by independently reading their own books for at least 30 minutes. It's important students practise developing their focus and training their minds as they move toward grade 6 and eventually high school.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, students have begun our unit on Fractions. In this unit, students will represent fractions in different ways, compare and order fractions, convert and rename fractions and manipulate fractions by adding, subtracting and multiplying them. We'll be using our essential assessment data to inform our teaching so we can meet the student needs. 

 Reminders:

• School begins at 8:30am, with continuous entry from 8:20am. Please be on time promptly at 8:30am.
• Late arrivals (8:40am onwards) require a late pass from the office.
• Absences- If your child is away, please remember to upload your reasons on XUNO; and please reach out to the office or your classroom teacher if you need support doing this.
• Students are to completing their homework every week. 
• Remember to bring  a waste-free lunch on Wednesday for the school waste-free Wednesday! 
• Colour Run: The last day of school on Friday the 15th of September.
