Denise's Message

Dear Families,

Father's Day

A great day was held by all who attended our Father's & Special Person's Day last Tuesday. I have never seen so many father figures in attendance at our annual event. It was a pleasure to host you all.

On behalf of the St. Michael's school community we wish you all a Happy Father's Day this Sunday.

MACSSIS - Family School Improvement Survey

Throughout each year, we pause to listen to our students, families and staff to gauge how our learning community is travelling. At St Michael's, we believe that it is important for families to have a voice and contribute to shaping the ongoing improvement of the school. Parent feedback is invaluable to our progress as an effective school community.

All parents are invited to participate in our annual online Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools – School Improvement Surveys (MACSSIS). All families will received an email with the details of how to complete the survey. We encourage all families to participate.

Pilgrimage to the Holy Land: Past, Present and Future.

“Following in the Footsteps of Jesus”.

Friday 1 September – Thursday 14 September 2023

I am privileged to have been given the opportunity to be part of a Pilgrimage to the Holy Land, Israel with fellow Catholic Primary School Principals from schools in the North West of Melbourne.

I will be in Israel for the final two weeks of Term 3 and then will be taking Long Service Leave at the beginning of Term 4 to travel to Portugal, Spain, and London with family. I will return to school on Monday, October 23.

While I am away I leave you in the very capable hands of Angela Flint, who will be the Acting Principal, and Lauren Doherty, who will be the Acting Deputy Principal.

Nothing will ever be quite the same again’.

Rock Bottom Production

WHAT A SHOW!!!!

Congratulations to all involved for an amazing performance, to all our talented children and staff who produced a very entertaining show for us all. To our families who supported the school with production sponsorship and to all who came along to watch, we thank you! We have all appreciated your feedback and words of support and encouragement.

Food Sharing

I would like to address a recent concern that has arisen within our school community regarding the sharing of lollies, treats, and food items among students. We have noticed a significant increase in the number of children bringing such items to school and sharing them with their peers. While we appreciate the generous intentions behind this gesture, it has unfortunately led to some issues both within and outside the classroom.

To maintain a positive and productive learning environment, I kindly request that families refrain from sending lollies, treats, and other food items to school for sharing purposes. It's important to remind your children that the sharing of food is not permitted unless done under the guidance and supervision of an adult. This precaution is in place to ensure the safety and well-being of all our students, as allergies, dietary restrictions, and other health considerations can vary widely.

Furthermore, I would like to emphasize that chewing gum or bubble gum is not allowed on the school premises. This rule is in place to uphold a clean and distraction-free learning environment for all students.

Additionally, I kindly ask parents not to distribute food to children before or after school hours within the school vicinity. We believe that by adhering to this guideline, we can minimize disruptions and potential issues that might arise.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this matter. Our primary focus is always on the well-being and education of our students, and your support in ensuring a safe and inclusive environment is greatly appreciated.

Pets

I would also like to request that pets are no longer brought into the schoolyard and are kept away from the school gates. We love our pets and they are important members of our families but for some of our children, they can cause fear and anxiety.

Staff Professional Learning Day

Last Monday our staff gathered to examine our school's NAPLAN results and investigate how we can continue to improve the way in which we collect student data and use it to drive teaching and learning. We identified our successes and challenges and

have set goals to ensure we continue to improve. It was a very successful day!

School Fees

Thank you to the families who have finalised their 2023 school fees payment. It is important that if you have yet to finalise the payments you do so as soon as possible.

2024 Enrolment

We are currently receiving many requests for positions in our school, particularly in Years 1-6. To assist us in planning for 2024 class groups, I ask families that are leaving St. Michael's to email me as soon as possible.

All students attending St Michael's Primary School have the right to feel safe. The care, safety and wellbeing of children and young people is a fundamental responsibility of all within our school.
