Cultural Diversity Week

"Our Shared Stories - Celebrating Together"

Monday 18th March – Sunday 24th March

Cultural Diversity Week brings people together from all walks of life to promote community harmony, and celebrate the beautiful intersections that enrich our vibrant and culturally diverse communities.

ENPS Harmony Tree

As an inclusive school community we are wanting to create an ENPS Harmony Tree. To recognise and include our families in this celebration, we have designed a small family task for you to do together. This task can then come back to school to create our whole school displays depicting what it means to belong at ENPS.

This collaborative task will then be displayed and showcased as an indication of the strength from diversity of our ENPS community. Hearts will be cut out and laminated at school. Your heart design is up to your family. We encourage you to do it together as a family (siblings can create one for the family or one each).  Please only use the heart template provided (and only on one side) to  represent your family.

Attached below is a copy of the heart template, which will also be sent home with the eldest student of each family during the coming weeks. Hearts will need to be returned to the class teacher by Monday 18th March.

Some hints and tips:

  • Please include your family name.
  • It can be colour or black and white.
  • If you use photos, please have them printed on plain paper (not photo paper) so that it can still be laminated.
  • Please stay within the heart template.
  • Draw a family or cultural tradition
  • Decorate with designs.

Let's share our similarities and celebrate our differences!

During Week Eight all students will also engage in a variety of  authentic learning experiences, to deepen their conceptual understandings and show respect and appreciation of different cultural heritages,  perspectives, traditions, identities and languages.

Special Cultural Diversity Assembly

We will conclude with a whole school intercultural celebration assembly on Friday 22nd of March starting at 2:20pm in the school gym. To celebrate our cultural community at ENPS, we invite members (teachers, students, mums, dads, grandparents, siblings) of our school community to showcase their talents in the form of cultural acts during this special Cultural Diversity Assembly. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to come together, appreciate the diversity that makes our school special and enjoy a variety of performances.

Date: Friday 22nd March

Time: 2:20pm

Venue: School Gymnasium

Type of cultural acts we’re looking for:

  • Traditional dances
  • Folk music performances
  • Poetry readings in different languages
  • Storytelling from diverse cultures
  • Demonstrations of traditional arts, crafts, and artifacts
  • Instrumental
  • Vocal

How to Participate:

If you have a cultural act that you'd like to share with the school community, please express your interest by emailing Mrs Mac by 13th of March at sharon.mcwhinney@education.vic.gov.au.

We believe that this cultural showcase will not only be a source of inspiration but also a moment of unity and understanding for our school community.

Let's come together, celebrate our diverse backgrounds, and create memorable moments at ENPS.

We look forward to seeing the incredible talent within our community.

Many thanks,

Mrs Mac
