Foundation

In Foundation we have been loving our maths inquiries into shape! We are learning to sort, describe and identify 2D shapes, both in our classroom and outside in the playground. We have loved exploring shapes in many different ways, including through story books, drawing, collage, blocks, construction, stencils, playdough… and even our bodies! Reviewing the concept of shape through our investigations has been a huge hit, and a wonderful way to use our learning authentically.

Please enjoy photos of our Foundation mathematicians in action!

Ways to support this learning at home:

  • Support your child to recognise shapes around them at home and in your neighbourhood.
  • Ask them, “How do you know that is a square? Show me, prove it!”
  • Ask your child to make connections between shapes, such as “What other shapes do you know that have four sides?”
  • Encourage your child to make and create shapes in as many different ways they can at home.
