Yes, it seems like a rare event... a newsletter from Kilsyth PS.
It has taken some time to get ourselves organised this year, however we now have a team in place to bring you a regular newsletter.
One of the things we have been working on is how we can mobilise a team of 'student reporters' to write the bulk of the newsletter. I am thrilled that we now have this sorted and Ellery, Taylor and Bella have been the first crew to bring you the news. Each edition a new team will bring you their perspective on the happenings here at KPS.
Next edition we will also be including a 'From the Parents' page which will bring you news from our school council and other parent groups within the school. We hope you find this new format helpful and informative.
Great question, I am glad you asked.
One major change this year has been Miss Johnstone's absence. We were very pleased for Anna when she took on a 5 week role of Acting Principal at Gladesville PS, and suspected that her talents would be noticed by those in our Regional Office. We were right. Miss Johnstone was offered the position of Acting Principal at Yarra Road PS for Term 2, replacing their principal who is taking some long-service leave. At this stage we are expecting Miss Johnstone to return in term 3, however we know how capable she is as a school leader and would not be surprised if she continues in an acting role of some description, somewhere. Whilst we miss Anna (and Sully) and the massive contribution she makes to our community, we do wish her all the best as she gains experience in these important roles.
To ensure we have been able to maintain our high quality of student and family wellbeing support, we have increased the role of School Wellbeing Officer and have appreciated Olivia Liddicoat taking on a full time role this term. This role will continue into the future and we are thrilled to see the great things she has already been implementing with families and students alike. Just pop by the office at anytime if you'd like to touch base with Olivia.
Our search for an awesome Business Manager reached its conclusion when we employed Mrs Maddy Meyland at the start of this term. Maddy comes to us with extensive experience and has already had a significant impact on the efficiency and effectiveness of our office team. Maddy will be taking a leadin
g role in the general running of the business side of things, including buildings and grounds and fundraising. She will be working closely with parent groups across the school so stop by and say "hi" whenever you get a chance. Welcome aboard Maddy!
We have also been working hard to build opportunities for parent involvement in our school community. Keep an eye open for ways you can get involved. We will be communicating through Sentral, and there will be lots of great things for parents to join in on.
Which brings me to Breakfast Club, Cookies and Milo and Gardening Club. These are regular opportunities for parents to get involved in life here at KPS.
Breakfast Club runs on Thursdays from 8.15am - 9.15am and we would love parents to join us as we serve toast, make cereal, do dishes and chat to students. You don't have to commit to more than a week at a time, we look forward to seeing you when you can make it. To pop your name on the roster, click here and register for one or many sessions: https://signup.com/go/PUVBEPg
Cookies and Milo are served on Wednesdays and we are looking for volunteers from 10.45am -11.45am. Once again, you can sign up for one week or many, just click here to register: https://signup.com/go/eOWnpfR
Gardening Club is for parents with green thumbs, blue thumbs, red thumbs or whatever colour thumbs you like. Just be ready to chat and laugh along as you weed, plant and tidy the garden with friends. No need to sign up for this one, just stick around after school drop of on Monday mornings. We'd love to see you there.
So many other great things are happening and have been happening, but I don't want to steal the stories from the students. Check out the rest of the newsletter and the editions to come!
This year Kilsyth Primary School is holding our 'Twilight School' Open Night on Wednesday 15th May. This exciting event involves shifting the school day to begin at 12.00pm and finish at 6.30pm. We will be running our usual Wednesday program and you will have the opportunity to see all our classes in action.
Tours of the school will be available through out the day for prospective new parents. If you know someone who would like to join a tour and hear more about the great things that occur each day at Kilsyth Primary School, please invite them to book via this link: kilsythps.vic.edu.au/twilight/ or calling 9725 4320.
All parents are welcome to come and join us at any time during the day. Our classrooms are open, you are encouraged to come along and see our classes in action. It's a great opportunity for your child to share their learning with you.
The timetable for the day will be:
Each year, families are encouraged to join us at 5pm for dinner. Bring along something home, grab some take-away or purchase a sausage from our BBQ (notices have been sent home to pre-order).
We understand that some parents are working in the morning and your child may need to be at school earlier than 11.45am. That is fine. We are running a supervised area in the Junior Building from 8.45am. To register your child for this please click here:

If your child needs to be here earlier than 8.45am, the usual arrangements with Camp Australia should be made.
We hope to make this a great day celebrating the fantastic things that happen at Kilsyth Primary School and encourage you to come along and see the terrific learning experiences we provide our students. This promises to be a great community event.
