Parents' Association

Parents' Association had its first meeting on Thursday 21 February.  Sixteen families were represented, many of them first time parents at the school, and for some they had just moved into the Ringwood area and keen to connect with other families.  Priscilla (Carter in Grade 3/4Y) and Bao (Jonah in Grade 1M) led the discussion, expressing a desire to form a group of parents committed to continue to build a community where everyone feels welcome and works collaboratively with the school for the best outcomes for the students.   The work of the Parents' Association is both to generate social connections and to support the fundraising efforts of the school.  

 

Outlined below are some of the Fundraising conversation from the meeting:

  • Easter Raffle coming up before the end of the term
  • Mother's Day Stall - Friday 10 May - Could the dad's run this stall?
  • Father's Day Stall - Friday 31 August - Could the mum's run this stall?
  • Fun and Food Festival - Saturday 23 November - Could the Parents' Association run the BBQ on the day?
  • Bunnings BBQ - We are set to have seven of these BBQ's.  One for each grade level to support with the Foundation running the BBQ on Saturday 27 April and the Grade 1 running the BBQ on Saturday 18 May.

Outlined below are some other ideas from the group of parents that met yesterday:

  • Class Representatives - Is it possible to have one representative from each class that is a go-to person for information, clarification etc...?
  • Food Bank - To help support families in the school community, can there be a Food Bank accessible to families who may need food items?
  • Celebrating cultural diversity - Can we explore ways to celebrate diversity?  What about Harmony Day coming up on 21 March?  Can we do more "A Taste of...." morning teas like we did for Italian Day last year?
  • Whatsap - How do we ensure all families have access to a class Whatsap page?

 

Exciting times ahead for this work to take hold.  A second meeting of Parents' Association will be held on Wednesday 13 March at 9:00 in the staffroom.  At this meeting we will be commencing planning for many of the events listed above.  Come along and join us if you are able to.
