Student Accident Insurance

The Department of Education and Training (DET) does not provide personal accident insurance for students.

  • Parents and carers are generally responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including any transport costs.
  • Student accident insurance policies are available through private insurance companies to cover medical expenses not met by Medicare.
  • Schools and DET are not able to advise parents on whether to purchase such an insurance policy or which policy to purchase as individual families have differing needs.

Personal Goods Brought to School at Owner's Risk

The Department of Education and Training (DET) does not hold insurance for personal property brought to schools and it has no capacity to pay for any loss or damage to such property.

  • This applies to students, staff and members of the public.
  • This can include mobile phones, electronic games, iPads, laptops, calculators, items of jewellery, toys, musical instruments, sporting equipment, clothing, bicycles, and cars parked on school grounds.
  • Students and staff are to be discouraged from bringing any unnecessary or particularly valuable items to school.
  • Students who drive a car to school must not park on the school grounds.

CCTV  Installation

Mullauna College has installed a CCTV system for the safety of the school community and property. A copy of the CCTV policy can be found on Compass, under School Documentation/School Policies.

Footage will be limited to the Assistant Principals and Facilities Manager, Luke Handley.

Mobile Phone Policy

Just a reminder to everyone of the Department of Education's policy regarding mobile phones in schools.

Students who bring phones to school must secure them in their lockers throughout the school day. Mobile phones that are in class or the yard will be confiscated and stored for collection at the end of the day.  Parents will be contacted after the second occurrence. After the third and subsequent occurrences, mobile phone may be collected only by parents/carers.

Copies of the Mobile Phone policy can be found on Compass under School Documentation/School Policies.

Cricket Balls are Banned at School

Mullauna College has excellent sporting facilities. We want our students to be active and healthy and to make best use of the opportunities available to them every day. Regarding playing cricket at school, the following guidelines are enforced for the protection of all people on campus.

  1. For safety reasons students who want to practise cricket at recess and lunch time must use the cricket nets.
  2. The only variation to this location for cricket is in Physical Education and Sport classes or team practice under the direct supervision of a teacher.
  3. Regulation hard leather cricket balls are not to be used at school.
  4. Students may use low injury balls or tennis balls for bowling and batting practice.
  5. Students bringing their own protective gear  to use in the nets is always encouraged.
  6. At any time, should a student receive a hard hit to the head or the groin, then immediate first aid assistance from the teacher on yard duty and the front office must be sought.
