2024 Sport Captains: Cadence Courteny and Chloe Noon
A message from Cadence Courtney (Year 12)
I am Cadence Courtney, one of the 2024 Sport Captains along with Chloe. I have been at Clayfield College since Year 7 in 2019. I am from Townsville and was a boarder for three years. One of my favourite things about being at Clayfield is the sporting opportunities. Since Clayfield is a small school, it gives us the chance to get involved in everything and try something that we may have never had a chance to try out. I have tried soccer, softball, badminton, cricket, and many more sports. Previously, I was a competitive swimmer and gymnast and now I am a Learn to Swim coach at the Clayfield Swimming, which is another opportunity I have gained from the sport community at the College. This year I am looking forward to making an impact with Sport at Clayfield. I would like to encourage all students to participate in more sports where they can and find enjoyment and community within that sport. I would also like to highlight the social side of sports, meeting new friends and being a part of a team.
A message from Chloe Noon (Year 12)
I am Chloe Noon, Co-captain to Cadence. Sport is one of my biggest passions and has had such an impact on my life. I have been a competitive runner for many years and it has taken me all over Australia. In a few months, I will be travelling down to Adelaide for Nationals. Clayfield has really supported my training, providing skilled coaches, morning cross country sessions and access to the gym. I want to give back to the College by working alongside Ms Hughes - Head of Sport and Activities, and our amazing sports staff to create an engaging and fun-filled year of sport. Clayfield is offering so many incredible sports this year so I would love to encourage everyone to come to training sessions and give them a go. Ms Hughes has brought in many high-quality coaches for sport in 2024 with years of experience coaching well known athletes across Australia. Cadence and I will be working closely together to make sport in 2024 the best year yet.
The first three weeks of term have been buzzing with excitement! The Secondary Interhouse Swimming Carnival was held at Nudgee Collage pool this year and was certainly a day to remember with Campbell House taking the win. The Teacher vs Old Collegians vs Student relay was one of the highlights of the day with the students taking first place. The Primary Interhouse Swimming Carnival also took place recently and it was amazing to see so many of the Primary students giving the races a go. It was a fun day filled with cheering, snow cones, and was a great, warm day to be able to jump into the pool and cool down. I would like to give a big shoutout to a few of the Year 10 students who came down to the pool to help out. They got in the pool to swim with students, helped with timing, and most importantly encouraged the younger students.
There have also been some incredible achievements from our sporting teams this term. Our Boys’ Basketball team has started the year off strong with a fantastic game resulting in a win. Boys buckle up, coming soon will be a Futsal program, keep an eye out for more information on this. This term is a big one for sports at Clayfield:
The countdown is on for QGSSSA Swimming, which is on 28 February. Make sure you check the College App for trainings and details for the event. We have exciting plans surrounding the big day. Swimmers, thank you for going to trainings. Your hard work and commitment will pay off on the day and is greatly apricated. We want to see more attendance at training this week!
A massive thank you goes to Ms Hughes for all her hard work and support. None of the sports at Clayfield would be possible without her. Make sure you download and check the College App for all information. We look forward to the exiting plans this year and hope to see all of you either swimming or spectating at QG Swimming on 28 February!
