Teaching and Learning

French Readers

In our French sub-school day, we talked about readers and looked at ordering new ones. Could French teachers fill in the following survey, as a team, before the end of week 9 so we can discuss this in our Monday meeting in Week 10?

Here is the survey.

French Reading Groups

Following discussions with the French sub-school leaders, we have identified that our understanding of students’ reading levels is not as strong as it could be, and that students  are not always being targeted at their point of need.

To address this, we are reinforcing the importance of differentiation in all French lessons. If this has not been implemented this term, please ensure that reading groups are included in your planning for Term 2.

Reminder when providing resources for CRTs

Just a reminder to please make sure all of the digital documents you have left for your CRT have been copied over to the CPS CRT Drive. Please make sure the links you provide in any documentation also link back to the correct document within CPS CRT Drive.

Les Mots Magiques

To ensure consistency across both campuses and alignment with our curriculum, here is the updated list of our Mots Magiques, including the year level in which each set is taught. Bolded words are words that have been added or moved.

If you would like to give feedback or if you a spot a mistake, please email Mélody before Wednesday 25th March. If everyone is happy with the changes, we will move forward with this updated list starting from Term 2 2026.

French activities to include in your planning

A little reminder about the document outlining all the French activities you’ll need to include in your 2026 planning, organised by term.

Please feel free to adjust anything if you notice an error. We hope this helps guide your planning next week.

Merci

- The French sub-school leaders

CPS/KHPS Concours de récitation

French teachers : Poetry competition Term 2

Please consider this next week when you plan your Term.

This year’s theme is  "des ponts entre nous

Please find here the poems for 2026.

In F/Y1 and Y2 only one poem per year level.

From Y3, students can choose their favourite poem between the 2 allocated to their year level.

Here is the timeline:

-T1, W9/10 present the poems, make sure the students understand them, work on the vocabulary.

-T2, W1 to 6: students learn their poem by heart with and without your help.

I will soon create a folder with the recordings of the poems.

You can make the recordings available on seesaw for them to listen to the correct pronunciation.

You can also allocate time in class to practice the poem.

When you teach the best practices for recitation, use this rubric

You will use the same rubric to assess your students (you can use this task as a portfolio task for French for Term 2)

The students can make a drawing to illustrate their poem. Especially the students who signed up for the Alliance Française competition (Y3 to 6). It must be on an A4 piece of paper.

-In Week 7: 1st to 5th of June: competition in class: All students recite the poem and a one finalist per class is chosen.

Teachers record the finalist and upload the video here (deadline june 12th). Name the video with this format: classePrénomNom: 4APrénomNom

For the recording, students hold a whiteboard with their name and class at the beginning of the video and can drop it to make gestures if they want to.

Remind students to say the tittle and the name of the author.

At the assembly  on 22/06/26, winners are announced and get their trophy.

Y3 to 6: In Week 10, if you could encourage students to sign up to the Berthe Mouchette competition. Considering they are already learning a poem , they can use the same poem for the competition and win some prizes!! Enrolments close on the 23rd of March.
