National Schools Constitutional Convention

Year 12 student Mac Martinshas been selected as one of 24 Victorian representatives (113 from across Australia) to attend the 31st National Schools Constitutional Convention (NSCC), being held at the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House, Canberra.

The visit will include the Prime Minister’s Welcome Reception at Parliament House hosted by The Hon Jason Clare MP, Minister for Education, a meeting with the Governor-General, Her Excellency the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC at Government House, and an official dinner at the National Press Club.

The topic for the 2026 Convention is, ‘Should Section 53 of the Constitution be amended to prevent the Senate from blocking supply (rejecting money bills)?’. This topic will provide students with the opportunity to examine Sections 53 of the Australian Constitution and learn about the role of supply bills and their importance in the functioning of government and how the roles of two houses of parliament provides checks and balances on the executive power of government. A range of stimulus speakers will discuss the issues with students for them to debate with all delegates. Emeritus Professor Clement Macintyre from the University of South Australia will facilitate the Convention.

Outcomes from the Convention will be incorporated into a Communiqué that will be presented to the President of the Senate, Senator The Hon Sue Lines, for tabling in Parliament and recorded in Hansard.

We are incredibly proud of Mac’s application and were delighted to receive the news that he had been selected a Victorian representative. We hope that this is a wonderful learning opportunity and look forward to hearing about his experiences upon return.

Wellbeing Week

Last week we proudly celebrated Wellbeing Week, with a range of fun and engaging activities taking place each recess and lunchtime across the campus. Wellbeing Week was initiated by our 2025 Year 10 Youth Change Makers, an inspiring initiative delivered in partnership with Hobsons Bay Youth Services. What began as a student-led idea has now become a valued part of our college calendar, running each term with events across the campus and broader college.

Our SRC members showed outstanding leadership, organisation and teamwork in bringing these daily events to life. Their enthusiasm and commitment created a positive and inclusive atmosphere for everyone to enjoy.

A big congratulations to all students who helped organise the week and thank you to everyone who participated and supported the activities.

The SRC to plan to use the raised funds to resource future events and contribute to charities connected with the college.
