Learning, growing and celebrating together...
Dear Sacred Heart Kew Families,
If you’ve wandered past the Prep classrooms recently, you may have noticed something unusual. No, it’s not the tiny chairs (although they are a hazard for unsuspecting adults). It’s the astonishing amount of work happening inside.
Our newest children, the Preps, have arrived bright-eyed, curious, and occasionally wondering why school starts so early. In just a few short weeks, they have been tackling some of the most complex challenges known to five-year-olds.
For example:
Working out which hat is theirs when 37 hats look almost exactly the same.
Meanwhile, their teachers are performing feats that would impress even the most seasoned project managers. In a single morning they may:
Comfort someone who has been deeply wronged by a squashed piece of fruit
All before recess.
And let us not forget the incredible intellectual progress being made. Our Preps are already learning how to listen during story time, share with friends, count, recognise letters, and sit on the mat without accidentally rolling into their neighbour (a skill that takes great concentration let me tell you).
Of course, learning how to be at school is a big job. It involves bravery, patience, new friendships, and sometimes the courage to try something tricky for the very first time. And then, next week, our Prep children will face a full week of school!
So if your Prep child comes home a little tired at the end of the day, there’s a very good reason. They have spent hours reading, writing, counting, drawing, thinking, asking questions, playing, learning routines, and being determined learners.
To our wonderful Prep teachers: thank you for your endless energy, kindness, and impressive ability to remember every child’s name, lunchbox and favourite animal or toy.
And to our fantastic Preps: welcome to school ‘officially’ as you begin your first full week next week. You are already doing an amazing job! We are all so very proud of you.
Wishing everyone a lovely weekend.
Kind Regards,
Ed Weekes
School Principal
