Dr Austin - The "Bee Man"
As part of our collaboration with Ku ring gai Council, we were lucky enough to have a guest presenter this week. Dr Alexander Austin is an ecological researcher and Educational Officer for the council and gave our students a lesson in stingless bees and their benefits for our environment. Holy Family will be applying for a council grant next year to obtain some stingless bees to add to our garden environment.
Fascinating Bee Facts!
-European Honeybees are not native to Australia and are feral animals if not kept in a controlled hive
-Not all bees create honey and live in a hive
-Bees are actually classified as 'vegetarian wasps" and only came to being during the Jurassic Age when vegetation began to flower
Remembrance Day Ceremony
Last Saturday, two school leaders and I attended the Roseville Club Remembrance Day Ceremony. Many of our local schools attended and placed a wreath as part of the ceremony. Atrina and Kyle represented our school with great dignity and respect to the occasion.
Pre-Service Teachers
Holy Family School often engage with universities to assist with the training of Pre-Service teachers. These practicum experiences are essential to training teachers as they learn vital skills and observe the real day to day life as a Primary school teacher. Today we say goodbye to Ms Gojkovic and Mr Taratoris from Australian Catholic University at the end of their three-week block. Both emerging teachers are in their second year of tertiary education. Thank you to Mrs Bau-Gasper and Mrs Hogan for their excellent supervision, modelling and mentoring to these new teachers.
