SUSTAINABILITY!

November is Buath Gurru (Grass Flowering Season) on the Wurundjeri calendar! The weather is warm, and it is often raining. Kangaroo Grass is flowering. Buliyong (bats) are catching insects in flight. Male Common Brown butterflies are flying. Coranderrk (Victorian Christmas Bush) is coming into flower. The Orion constellation is setting in the western sky around sunrise.

The Kitchen Garden

Our Spring crop is maturing and almost ready to harvest! We will hopefully have a harvest market fully stocked in the next few weeks. Keep an eye on compass for the next market date! Our seedlings are almost ready to go in for the Summer holidays. Our students have been hard at work looking after the garden.

As designed by Level 2 last semester, we have installed a native garden bed with a frog bog and lizard lounge in the Kitchen Garden. Amongst the native vegetation, is a variety of Bush Tucker plants that we look forward to seeing grow and thrive. Our students continue to investigate our developing biodiversity in the garden, and we hope to see some frogs and lizards enjoying their new home soon!

In the Classroom

Level 1 students have been exploring Life Below Water and the adaptations of aquatic animals! 1RK and 1KR did a fantastic job camouflaging octopuses around the sustainability room! See if you can spot some below:

Level 4 have been exploring renewable energy. Students explored chemical reactions using solar energy through Cyanotype prints. Students also investigated ways to improve efficiency of wind farms and turbines.
