Secondary 9/10
9/10A
During Term 4, Secondary 9/10A have continued learning about native Australian Animals. We have researched natural and man-made threats including bushfires and deforestation, and learned about existing organisations and how they assist the animals in response to these threats. We have also explored ways we can help the animals such as planting trees and donating food, water, money and blankets to charities.
Additionally, the students engaged in numerous Experience Days to further deepen their knowledge, including a visit to Bunnings to purchase plants to plant around the school.
We also participated in a range of language experiences at school, where the students watched documentaries and completed other activities relating to the week’s learning focus. The students have then applied this knowledge during writing sessions and are working on creating an informative poster about a specific Australian animal.
The students have also been working on their letter-sound knowledge in blending and segmenting words in reading and to help with our writing of words. In mathematics sessions, we have been working on our addition and subtraction skills by solving 2-digit addition problems with/without regrouping and 2-digit subtraction problems with/without using our individualised visual templates.
Some highlights for the students this term were surfing on our Secondary 9/10 Anglesea Surf Camp, participating in a range of sporting events such as 100m sprint, hurdles race and long jump during the Secondary Sports Day and sailing on Albert Park Lake during the Sailability excursion.

It is incredible to look back on the year, what we have done, and how quickly times have passed.
The students are ready to make the leap into the next phase of their education.
We have learned an incredible amount, from Extreme Environments and Sustainability within our Discovery Unit to some excellent literature studies aligned to our units, ranging from fiction studies of the Wild Robot to Blueback by Tim Winton to exploring some excellent guided reading texts. Our studies in Mathematics range from Place Value to Addition and Subtraction to Money, fractions and chance, to name a few topics. Our Writing has moved genres from recount within the subway experience to persuasive text aligned with our discovery unity.
We became fit with our daily interval training and exercises in the morning. We have travelled to St Kilda for Beach adventures, Albert Park for Sailing, WaterMarc for swimming, camp at Anglesea to challenge ourselves and build new friendships, Market Day to explore money and purchase our goods together—Hoyts movie to have some fun and celebrate the end of the year.
We look forward to the year ahead and the challenges and learning experiences it brings after a super year in 2023.

Term 4 has been a busy term with lots of events and powerful learning opportunities. Our overall discovery topic of Sustainability has been incorporated into all our subjects as we learn about looking after ourselves through looking after the environment and our communities.
