Principal Report
Our school is located on the land of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation.
Our school has started working with the City of Boroondara as part of the Active and Safe Schools program. Our school has been selected as one of two schools to be involved in the program which aims to create a safer travel environment for students and families walking and riding to school.
We will work with Council on road safety education, increasing the number of students walking and cycling to school and identifying potential traffic infrastructure improvements.
Our school will be visited a number of times by Council and this is an opportunity for you to take part in helping our school to be a safer, healthier and more pleasant environment for everyone.
Key activities and events -
This term we will undertake a school travel survey for parents and families.
In term 1 2024 we will have Road Safety Education incursions for all students.
We will also have an Information Booth on Road Safety & Active Travel in Term 1.
We look forward to your input and participation in working together to create a more active and safe school.
Travel Survey - Have your say in safe travel to school
As part of the program our school will be taking part in a school travel survey. All parents and families are invited to participate.
This travel survey is important to help us better understand how we are currently travelling to and from school. We can then plan to improve options for student travel.
It will take only a few minutes to complete. This will be a great opportunity for parents to have an input into road safety around our school.

Communication is key to all we do as a school community. Our aim as a school is to work out how to improve and build our connections and engagement with our community.
In order to do this we are inviting all members of the community to send 3-5 minutes completing a Values survey. Follow the link and let us know why you sent your child to BPPS, what values you think the school should live by and what you hope for your child in a primary school experience.
A reminder we have two Values workshops planned for next week:
You are invited to attend andshare your thoughts about the values which will focus our school going into the next five years.
We are excited to celebrate the efforts of two of our children at two assemblies this term.
Congratulations to Colin who has won the ICAS medal for English in Year 3 - the Victorian winner!
Congratulations to Eric who has won the ICAS medal for Science in Year 5 - the Victorian winner!
Each year we put up the Christmas tree in the foyer and seek your help in raising funds for the Salvation Army Hamper of Hope Appeal. Soon your child will come home with an empty bag requesting that you donate foodstuffs that can be used for families who are not as fortunate.
Please place your filled bag under our Christmas tree by the first week in December and these gifts will be collected by our local Salvation Army.
We thank you in advance for your generosity and look out soon for that empty bag!
Be sure to read the Performing Arts page in this newsletter to make sure you note the date of our Carols Night in December.
Remembrance Day marks the date in 1918 when the First World War came to an end. It is officially observed at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month each year.
Remembrance Day will be marked by a pause at 11 am on Saturday 11 November 2023 for a minute’s silence, to remember people's service and sacrifice.
Victoria’s Shrine of Remembrance will hold a commemorative service on Remembrance Day. The service will be live streamed on the Shrine’s Facebook and YouTube channels from 10:30 am. Refer to the Shrine of Remembrance website for more information.
I came across information about Frog ID Week via the Australian Museum site.
Take part in Australia’s biggest frog count!
Our frogs are under threat from habitat loss, disease and climate change.
Record frog calls with the Frog ID app for scientists to listen and identify and help provide valuable data for the protection and conservation of frogs.
We have had another mulch delivery, it has started to be spread across the front garden area. If you have an hour and want to spread some mulch let us know.
The ongoing conflict in the Middle East continues to cause distress for staff, students, families and carers, especially those who have family and friends in the region. Our school is a rich and diverse community acknowledging that it is vital that our students, staff and families all feel safe and included in everything we do. I want to assure you that the department is monitoring the situation from a school security perspective. While we want to maintain an open and welcoming environment, we are also being vigilant in terms of safety, ensuring all our procedures, like visitors signing in and out, are being followed. If your child is impacted and/or distressed by the current conflict, you may find some aspects of this resource helpful:
Support is also available through external services including:
Please feel free to get in contact me if you would like to discuss this further.
A reminder our invitation to parents to spend time considering their child's learning, social and emotional needs for the following school year is now available.
Letting us know your child learns best in an active learning environment, with opportunities to negotiate their learning is good advocacy, whilst requesting a particular teacher for your child is not good advocacy.
All children experience different teachers throughout their education. It is important you share information about your child's needs but not tell us which class they need to be placed into. This is not an opportunity to select a teacher, this is not school policy and any requests for specific teachers will not be taken into consideration.
We are proud of our teaching staff and we work as a highly functional team, planning and working to provide the best learning environment possible at Boroondara Park PS.
Is your child leaving Boroondara Park PS in 2024? Please take the time to complete this form to let us know - Leaving Boroondara Park in 2024.
