With the year ending and the first half of the Summer season nearly completed I would like to take the opportunity to thank the students for their conduct in 2023. The school spirit, sportsmanship and excellent attitude demonstrated by these young men has been outstanding and they have been a credit to their parents/carers, coaches, and the College. I thank everyone for an enjoyable 2023, and I am very much looking forward to seeing how all teams fair next year.

At the end of this year, we will farewell in his role as Director of Co-curricular Mr Fochesato. As a long-standing staff member who has dedicated his life to St Patrick’s, I wish to thank Mr Fochesato for all his guidance, support, and contribution to the College’s Co-curricular Program. We are blessed to have had someone so devoted to the role here at SPC. Mr Fochesato deserves considerable recognition for his leadership, coaching expertise, and education to the vast number of students/people he has worked alongside. I personally would like to thank him for this and wish him all the very best for what lies ahead.

Please also know that Summer sports training will commence first Thursday back of Term 1, 31 January 2024, with a full round of fixtures set to commence on the Saturday 3 February 2024. (Interschool Golf fixtures will commence back the following week: Saturday 10 February).

The Farrell weights room will also re-open for students from Thursday 1 February 2024.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a safe holiday.

Swimming Report

The annual 2023/24 Swimming season has begun with the SPC Swimming Squad competing in two carnivals. The first carnival was hosted by St Patrick’s College on 10 November and provided the squad with opportunities to race against other schools with similar passions of winning the Swimming Shield trophy. This provided great opportunities for the squad to show off their training and race against schools who ultimately push each other to achieve a faster time.

This carnival had a variety of events where squad members broke PBs (personal bests) in many races. The excitement from the squad represented their efforts in training especially from Jack Taylor breaking the U17s 50m Freestyle record. His swim of 24.29 seconds broke the previous record of 24.65 which stood for years! A tremendous result. A top swim from the night came from Sebastian Reintz for breaking his PB by two seconds and coming in Second for his 50m Breaststroke event against nationalists. I’d also like to congratulate Austin Hall for his top placing in both 50m Butterfly and Breaststroke against a tough competition.

The second carnival was hosted at Trinity Grammar on 24 November giving the squad two weeks of training. Special thanks to Vice captain, Declan Trainor for helping at training and teaching the boys alongside the coach. We came into the school ready and prepared with knowledge from the previous carnival and techniques learnt from our coach, Mr Mark Bull.

While this carnival had no shield, it was still a competition that the boys thoroughly enjoyed and put every ounce of effort in. A huge congratulations to Patrick McDonald (Year 7) for swimming his first ever 100m Freestyle swim and achieving an astounding time. The most outstanding swim of the night was Jack Taylor swimming the 100m Freestyle in a staggering time of 55.19 seconds placing first in his age group against a competitive field.

I’d like to give a huge thank you to our head swim coach Mr Bull who has given up his time to prepare the boys for the two carnivals. Amongst him, I’d like to thank Mr Calavassy, Mr Fochesato and other teachers who gave up their evening to organise the first carnival. Without them I wouldn’t know how this whole carnival would go ahead.
