Literacy

In Writing, students will be planning and writing narrative texts. Students will be developing a list of adjectives which describe settings and characters to help them when writing their narratives. Students will explicitly plan a narrative to generate all their ideas, prior to writing the narrative, using the beginning, middle and end structure. They will edit and revise their narratives to add adjectives and correct punctuation or spelling errors.

In Knowledge, students are learning about the different systems within the human body. Students are reading about what body parts are involved in the Muscular, Skeletal and Nervous systems and why they are important. Students will also read about different technologies that support people with disabilities. We will apply our learning by writing down the function of each of these systems and list technologies that support vision, hearing and movement.

Numeracy

In Number and Algebra this month, we will be revisiting multiplication and division. Students have already been taught how to solve multiplication problems of 2, 3, 5 and 10 and related division facts. We will first review some tips and tricks to help students recall these facts as well as introduce them to new concepts to build upon the knowledge and skills they already have. For example, students will learn how to solve more complex multiplication problems such as, 432 x 3, by applying the vertical strategy.

In Statistics and Probability, we have been interpreting various types of graphs and data such as bar and line graphs, picture graphs with keys and dot plots. Students have learnt the different features of each of these graphs and have analysed these by answering questions and matching data sets to the correct graph. We will then use this knowledge to construct our own graphs with the correct features using data that have been given, as well as collected.

Health

In Health, students have continued to participate in hands-on activities that have included the different systems within the body; Muscular, Skeletal and Nervous systems. We completed exercises and identified which muscles they used, labelled various bones on skeletons and learnt how our nervous system supports senses and movement through relay activities.
