Year 2
Ms Gililand, Mr Rowley, Ms Michetti and Ms Kay
Hello Year 2 families! Almost halfway through term 4. We hope you have had a very enjoyable start to the final term of 2023. We have plenty of events coming up that all the Grade 2’s are excited about.
The Grade 2’s Big Day In was a huge success. Everyone had such a great time. We played a variety of games, completed a scavenger hunt across the school, watched a movie, with popcorn and juice, and finished off our learning of Instructional texts by making fairy bread. That was only just the day; in the evening the students completed a range of activities including a Nerf Zone, sports cube, and obstacle course; all before having pizza for dinner.
This term for Literacy, students have been working through the 7.4 graphemes and phonemes from the Little Learners Love Literacy. We have started by focusing on split digraphs and long vowel sounds. We have further developed our knowledge of persuasive texts, including how to form an opinion, an argument and use writing techniques to make our persuasive pieces stronger. We will continue this as we delve deeply into rhetorical questions, emotive language and exaggeration. Below is a list of the final graphemes and phonemes we are learning this year.
Core Knowledge has been so much fun. We have learnt about individual cells and how they form into tissue, which then becomes an organ and then multiple organs or structures become a system. We have learnt plenty about the digestive system as well as how the human body works. We will be wrapping up the Health portion of Core Knowledge by looking at healthy nutrition. Below is the display 2B made.
In Numeracy, we have been looking at money, including recognising, ordering and counting Australian coins and notes. We will be refreshing our knowledge of addition and subtraction strategies before moving into worded problems.
