0ne-two-rful 1/2s

Term 4 Week 4 2023 - Friday 27th October

What have we been up to?

Another quick fortnight done! Well done to the 1/2 students who have settled back into the routine school quickly.

In Literacy the past two weeks there has still been a focus on non-fiction texts and Explanation texts. In reading we have read Somebody’s Land and Hold On! Saving the Spotted Handfish. These texts have allowed students to recognise that books may be more than one text type. The 1/2 ‘s have written a joint Explanation on a topic of the class's choice. To help students with their upcoming independent Explanation piece they have been revising conjunctions and compound sentences.

The 1/2s were very excited to watch their own class movie this week and cannot wait to see the rest of them in the cinemas on the 15th of November.

Students have changed maths groups to provide a focus of subtraction that is targeting their needs and abilities. In their own classrooms they have been using concrete materials to explore the Volume/Capacity and the Area of objects by comparing how much volume containers have and the surface area of objects around the classroom.

During Week 3 students have been better understanding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture by learning how to participate in a yarning circle and by reading The Dreaming. Science has continued with Light and Sound by having the students recognise light and dark spaces in the school and recognise different light sources at home.

Here are some photo highlights from the fortnight that was!

1/2A and 1/2B went outside together to measure and compare the capacity/volume of different containers.

1/2C - We investigated the area of different things using formal and informal units of measurement.
