Fantastic 3/4

Term 4 Week 4 2023

What have we been up to?

In Literacy, each class is continuing reading their novel focusing on learning fluency, comprehension, inferring, and predicting skills. 3/4 A is reading A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket 3/4 B is reading The BFG by Roald Dahl and 3/4 C is reading Charlotte's Web by E. B. White. Students have now written their own independent narrative story based around the theme of mystery. Students have displayed their creative skills writing intriguing and interesting stories with thrilling problems and resolutions. Our focus this week has been editing our narratives thoroughly, taking a day each to edit capital letters, correct punctuation, the appropriate use of talking marks and misspelt words.

In Maths, students have started learning about time. They have been learning how to tell analogue time on a clock. Students have learnt the representations of the small and large hand on a clock face, as well how to tell the time to the minute. They have also been introduced terminology such as quarter past, half past and quarter to.

This term in Science, students will learn about Earth and Space Sciences. They will conduct experiments and practical based activities, demonstrating their knowledge of the Sun, Moon and Earth. Students will be challenged to ask questions and make observations of the world around them.

This term in Inquiry, students  will explore the world of primary sources, learning how to identify their origin and content features, which will allow students to gain a deeper understanding of the significance of various historical figures, places, and events. Students have in particular looked into what is the difference between migration, immigration and emigration. We have then began to look at push and pull factors of why people migrate to other countries.

Important reminders:

This term students MUST wear hats!

Please ensure your student brings a NAMED school wide brimmed hat to school everyday (NO CAPS) as directed by DET and our school sun smart policy. All students without the correct hat will not be allowed to play in the yard and will have to seek shade in the eating area during recess and lunch.

Thank you for your ongoing support!

Best regards,
