From the Principal

It is hard to believe we are now into the second half of Term 1! I have said to a number of parents that we have begun the year from where we left at the end of last year. Our absolute intent as a school is to build on the successes, we achieved in 2023. We are taking a very strategic approach to whole school improvement- particularly with how we achieve the greatest student outcomes in Literacy, Numeracy and Wellbeing. We have designated professional learning teams working in these spaces focused on specific Key Improvement Strategies from our Annual Implementation Plan (AIP). I will continue to provide regular updates with our what our work is focusing on. Our current work is on:

  1. Teacher implementation of a reading fluency assessment that is used to inform the development of reading comprehension.
  2. Rolling out Numeracy Daily reviews (teacher explicit instruction) across the school.
  3. Building staff knowledge with student voice, agency and leadership- particularly with a focus on student feedback to teachers
  4. Teacher implementation of Berry St strategies (Welcome Circles, Ready to Learn Plans) and use of THRIVE diaries during class wellbeing sessions.

Foundation BBQ

Last week we had our Foundation BBQ. This was a fabulous success. It was a great opportunity for all families to be formally welcomed into the Langy Park Community and for them to begin building relationships with each other.

Dunkley By-Election BBQ and Bake Sale

I would like to thank the PFC and our wider school community for their support of BBQ and Bake Sale last Saturday. It was a massive success and all the money raised will go towards our proposed basketball court upgrades.

I would also like to thank the staff and parents who helped out on the day. The amount of sausages and egg and bacon rolls cooked was unbelievable!

NAPLAN

From Wednesday 13th March to Monday 25th March, our Grade 3 and 5 students will be involved in NAPLAN testing. This Literacy and Numeracy assessment is an important tool to provide parents with insights on how their child is performing against National standards. As a school we place an importance on this test, and we also understand that this testing a snapshot of student achievement at a given point in time.

For parents and carers whose child will be involved in NAPLAN, sometimes providing basic reassurance that this test is like any other assessment they have done at school is an important thing to do. Our teachers also ensure that all their students are going into this testing with a calm and positive mindset.

Parent Complaint and Concern Policy

At Langwarrin Park Primary School we are always working intensively to create a positive school culture. The culture we have is not created only by our staff. Parents and students also have an active involvement with it. We are very understanding that on occasions parents and carers might have a concern or complaint that needs to be raised with the school. It is expected that when a concern or complaint is communicated, it is done so with kindness and respect. Attached below is a link to our school's Complaints Policy. I encourage everyone to read over this policy, so there is clarity with how we manage any complaints.

F-2 Twilight Sports

Next Wednesday afternoon (from 5pm), we have our annual F-2 Twilight Sports. This is always a fun event for our Junior students. We look forward to seeing our F-2 families on Wednesday afternoon.

School Photos

Our School Photos are next Friday. Please make sure your child is in their correct school uniform.

I hope everyone has a relaxing Long Weekend and that you can all find a way to stay cool!

Cheers,

Richard
