TERM 1- ITALIAN 2024

Buongiorno Ripper Families,

Buon Anno! This term in Italian we will be focusing on greetings and introductions at the beginning of lessons to develop students' understanding and confidence when speaking Italian. In addition, each level will focus on the following:

Foundation: It’s been wonderful getting to know our Foundation students. We have begun learning some introductions in Italian- Ciao, Buongiorno, Come ti chiami? Students will be launching into the unit of ‘Ecco Pinocchio’ where they will learn about greetings, family members and parts of the body.          .

Year 1/2: The story “Mangia mangia” (Eat eat) is our point of focus where students will examine some of the key vocabulary and phrases presented from the story. Specific games, singing exercises, oral activities and relevant written tasks and visual displays will help to reinforce the new language.

Year 3/4: The story ‘La Nonna e gli Occhiali’ ( The grandmother and the glasses) will enable students to reinforce the format of the language and to become increasingly familiar with the grammatical concepts as found in the storybook.

Year 5/6: “Ancient Rome”- Students will be learning facts, reading questions and responding in Italian. Students will be researching a topic on Ancient Rome and present this to the class.

Grazie,

Signora Merlino

TERM 1- Physical Education 2024

We have had a busy start to the year in Physical Education.

We have had a focus on our school values of Respect, Pride and Safety and how these are incorporated into sports, whilst also getting the opportunity to practice and improve our skills.

We have also hosted our School Swimming Carnival, which was a successful day for all who attended. We finished just in time before the storm rolled through, and this wouldn’t have possible without all the help and support from the staff and families that came on the day, so thank you!

Here is a short statement from each of our house captains after the event:

Bemin

We would firstly like to say we are really proud of everyone in Bemin for contributing to our house winning the day, and say well done to all the other houses who were really good too. We would like to congratulate every one in each house who participated, even if you didn’t swim thanks for coming and cheering. Everyone put in a great effort and even if you didn’t get a ribbon, we all won in the end by having a fun day.

Warren

We had such amazing results in the individual races, with some diving in some starting in the water. Congratulations everyone who swam an impressive 50 metres and even if you didn’t swim thanks for being there to support your team. Everyone should be really proud of their efforts for the day.

Booring

At the swimming carnival there were a bunch of events, including freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. Everyone was really excited to get in the water and have fun swimming and racing on a hot day. We are all very proud of all the houses for participating and having a go.

Tunparrim

To finish the day, we had the relays. They were a blast and were full of team effort and energy! Everyone participated and cheered on each other. There was 2 relays, including freestyle and noodle relay. Each race was 25 meters, and saw so many students participating.

Good job everyone, and well done Bemin for winning the day!
