Principal Team Message

Term 1 - Edition no: 2, 2024

OUR VERY BUSY RIPPERS

As we find ourselves in Week Four of Term 1, it's incredible to realize that we're already halfway through the term. These past two weeks have been a whirlwind of activity, with students fully engaged in a multitude of events.

For our Year 5/6 students, in particular, this period marks a crescendo of activity. With house swimming competitions, leadership courses, roles and responsibilities across the school, interschool sports competitions, district events, and the impending Canberra tour, their schedules are brimming with excitement and responsibility.

Despite their packed agendas, it's heartening to witness the dedication of our Year 5/6 cohort towards supporting our new Foundation students. Amidst their own commitments, they've generously extended their time and patience to foster meaningful relationships with their buddies from the Foundation class. These budding connections are not just heartwarming; they embody the spirit of camaraderie and inclusivity that defines our school community.

The anticipation is palpable as we count down the days until our Foundation students transition to full-time attendance next week. This milestone marks the beginning of a new chapter for them, and we're eager to support and nurture their growth every step of the way.

HOUSE SWIMMING CARNIVAL

Amidst scorching temperatures, the 2024 RPS House Swimming Carnival proved to be a day of spirited competition and camaraderie. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to

The atmosphere was amazing, with students from every house giving their utmost in a myriad of events. From traditional races to the ever-entertaining novelty events, the enthusiasm and sportsmanship displayed were truly commendable. Despite the intense heat, the determination of our participants and volunteers remained unwavering.

We owe a debt of gratitude to our dedicated parent volunteers, who braved the heat to ensure the smooth running of the carnival. Their tireless efforts in calling races and providing swimmers with their placings did not go unnoticed and were essential to the event's success. Additionally, we extend our sincere appreciation to our staff, Susie Massey and Tye, McGannon whose diligent planning and coordination ensured that the day ran seamlessly.

Reflecting on the sentiments expressed by the Bemin Captains, Eva, Luc, and Eva KL, it's evident that the true essence of the carnival lies in the spirit of participation and personal challenge. While victory is celebrated, what truly matters is the collective effort and determination demonstrated by every student. Whether competing in time trials or daring to master new strokes, such as the formidable butterfly, each participant showcased resilience and commitment.

As we bask in the triumph of the House Swimming Carnival, our attention now turns to our district team of swimmers. With the same passion and dedication exhibited at the carnival, we wish them the very best as they prepare to compete at GESAC on Thursday. May they represent our school with pride and determination, embodying the spirit of sportsmanship.

RIPPONLEA PRIMARY SCHOOL & RIPPONLEA KINDER WELCOME PICNIC

Celebrating Unity: The Welcome Picnic Unites Two Communities

The sun beamed warmly upon us as we gathered at the oval for an event that would resonate deeply within our hearts—the Welcome Picnic. It was a celebration of unity, a coming together of two communities, and a testament to the strength of our collective spirit.

Families, friends, and even past students came out for this first event of the year. The evening unfolded beautifully, marked by the poignant opening ceremony led by Uncle Shane Clarke, Josh West, and Mark Brown from the Bunurong Land Council.

Their words resonated deeply, reminding us of the rich heritage upon which our communities stand and the importance of acknowledging the traditional custodians of the land.

Amidst the backdrop of heartfelt speeches, we were serenaded by the melodious tunes of the Ripp Offs, a band comprised of our very own parents. Their harmonies echoed through the air, adding a soundtrack to our shared moments of celebration and connection.

But perhaps, it was the tantalizing aroma of sausages sizzling on the grill and the abundance of sweet treats that truly captured the essence of the evening. As we indulged in culinary delights, we shared stories, laughter, and forged new friendships—a testament to the power of food in bringing people together.

Our gratitude extends to all volunteers for supporting this event. We are also grateful that a special grant facilitated the authentic 'Welcome to Country' ceremony and smoking ceremony. These sacred rituals served as a poignant reminder of the significance of honouring Indigenous traditions and fostering understanding within our community.

Moreover, the Yidiki performance was a soul-stirring journey that transported us to ancient landscapes and deepened our appreciation for the cultural richness that surrounds us.

2024 RIPPONLEA SCHOOL COUNCIL ELECTIONS

School Councils play a vital role in shaping the direction and quality of education provided by our school. They are legally constituted bodies empowered to set key directions within state-wide guidelines. Through active participation, council members directly influence the educational experience of our students.

We are reaching out to encourage interested parents and carers to consider nominating themselves for a position on the School Council. This is a voluntary commitment that requires attending a minimum of eight meetings per year. Our council members represent both Department of Education and Training (DET) employees and parents, ensuring diverse perspectives and insights are considered in decision-making processes.

Additionally, there are specific roles and committees within the council that oversee various school initiatives. Your involvement in these committees can contribute significantly to the success and improvement of our school community.

If you are passionate about contributing to the educational journey of our students and are willing to dedicate your time and efforts to this important cause, we encourage you to nominate yourself for a position on the School Council.

For more information or to express your interest, please contact Natalie Rose or Tarryn Holland our school council president. Nomination forms can be collected at the school office or downloaded from the previous newsletter.

CONGRATULATIONS DAVE & EMILY ON YOUR NUPTIALS

Amidst the anticipation for the arrival of more Ripper babies, our community was pleasantly surprised by some joyous news this past weekend. Dave and his beloved fiancée, Emily, decided to take a leap into forever together, catching everyone off guard with their secret nuptials.

Their decision to exchange vows in a quiet, intimate ceremony speaks volumes about the depth of their love and commitment to one another. While we eagerly await the blossoming of their future family, witnessing Dave and Emily embark on this new chapter of their lives fills our hearts with immense joy.

As a community, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to the newlyweds. May your journey together be filled with endless love, laughter, and cherished memories.
