Dear Parents and Guardians,

I hope you were able to enjoy the Summer like weather on the long weekend. It was the beginning of Ramadan for many of our families and I wish them Happy Ramadan.

It is a time for reflection for many people whether it is Ramadan, Lent or Passover.  All of us, as Australians enjoy the freedom to practice our beliefs in our communities and come together in work and learning places to share in the value of mutual respect.

Our role as the parents and guardians for our students in partnership with school is respecting our culture, while also supporting students to accept different beliefs or different degrees people choose to observe their faith.  While our young ones are learning they may see this in black or white and can become adamant that their perspective is the right one. It takes a long time for us all to understand that there are many ways to practice our beliefs and also be accepting of others rights to do the same.

At RHPS we try as much as we can to explore all cultural celebrations through food, family and fun and hope you will all join us for Iftar in week 9 and The Easter Bonnet parade for F-2.  We are so excited to share traditions from all cultures and look forward to our Harmony week activities with you.  In this way with you we can build better understanding, learning from all perspectives and build a future of peace with our young people.

NAPLAN

All students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 in schools across Australia undertake the same tests on the same days. Students have their skills assessed in Reading, Writing, Language Conventions (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar), and Numeracy.

National test results provide information on how students are progressing and support improvements in teaching and learning.

Parents and carers can best assist students by making them feel comfortable about the nature and purpose of the tests. Their children can be assured that the assessments will give them an opportunity to show what they have learned in class.

All students are encouraged to participate in the national tests and special provisions are made to meet the needs of individual students with special needs. All parents of students in year 3 and 5 have been sent home an information pamphlet.  NAPLAN will be conducted in the week beginning the 12th of March.

It is really important to make this as normal a day as possible and reduce any anxiety some may feel over assessment.

Make sure students have breakfast and plenty of sleep during this time.  We have scheduled all testing in the morning to make sure anyone observing Ramadan is not adversely affected.

School Council

Ballot has been declared and I would like to thank everyone for their participation and interest in contributing to school life.  The successful candidates elected to the parent category of school council are Rabab Khalil, Hajar Zaatiti and Chantelle Arslan.

Thank you to the outgoing members of school council for your excellent work and contribution to the school over the past two years.
