Introducing Humanities Help for 2024
What is Humanities Help?
Every Thursday at lunchtime, students have the opportunity to come along to a specialised help session for Humanities-based subjects, including History, Geography, Philosophy, Sociology, Politics, Accounting, Economics, Business and Legal Studies.
Who should attend Humanities Help?
Humanities Help is open to students in Years 7 to 12. We welcome all students – passionate humanitarians, students who would like extra support with Humanities subjects, students who are struggling with their work and want to nail down the basics, and those who are aiming for Dux and want to find out how to excel in assessments. Improving general Humanities skills – including analysis, evaluation, writing, communication, problem-solving, and critical and creative thinking – will benefit learning in all subjects.
What will we do in Humanities Help?
Each session will be staffed by at least two Humanities teachers (the roster is shown below and will also be published weekly on Astra News). In these weekly sessions, students can access extra help with skills or concepts, complete homework, get assistance with assessment tasks or research assignments, or just come along to complete their own special projects in the Humanities field.
In 2024, we will also be running fortnightly skills sessions, where an expert teacher will deliver a workshop on the specified skill and assist students in using this skill. Towards the end of the semester, the focus will be on study skills in the lead up to the examination period.
The Humanities teachers at Girton are passionate about what they teach and love seeing young people enthused about the physical and social world around them. Ultimately, we want to ignite our students' passion for the Humanities, but at the very least, we want to give them the best opportunity to achieve their best.
