Teamwork

It is always a delight to see children working together to achieve a goal they have set for themselves. Last week, when one child declared he was building a door for the cubby out of blocks, his classmates quickly joined in by ferrying blocks from the shelf to the cubby and asking what else they could do to help. Soon a second door was being built by the group! Many children were hard at work together, not even aware that what they were really building were lifelong skills in cooperation, negotiation and sharing. 

Our days in Billy Button are filled with these little moments of teamwork: helping each other to pack toys away, passing the required crayon, sharing a watering can, or making space on the climbing fort.

I feel incredibly privileged to be a part of this important time in these young lives, and to be able to observe and facilitate these sorts of valuable everyday interactions.
