Level 3

Level  3

Welcome back to Term 3! Our week in Level 3 started with lots of energy and eagerness to catch up with friends. There was a lovely buzz in the classroom as everybody shared what they got up to over the holidays.

Connection

We started the week with a group task to bring us all back together and remember the skills we need to work effectively with others. Students were excited to get better each round of this maths inspired task and discover the pattern that would help them to succeed.

Reading

In Reading, students have been learning the important comprehension skill of ‘synthesising’. Our texts this week have introduced students to this term’s inquiry unit, ‘HEPS and beyond’. We have started off by reading a variety of texts about Australian states and territories, cities and special places. Students have been challenged to think about what they already know and then build on their understanding with new information from the texts.

Writing

This term we will be revisiting narrative writing, building on the skills learnt in Term 1 and working on the individual learning goals that we discovered. This week, students eagerly completed a ‘pre-write’, writing a narrative in a genre of their choice to see where they are at before we start our unit. We had some wonderful fantasy, action, adventure and realistic fiction stories created by these young authors!

Maths

This week’s maths focus is multiplication. Students will engage in games and hands on activities to recall multiplication and related division facts and explore arrays as a way to represent and solve multiplication problems. We started the week with an Essential Assessment to find our starting point.

Inquiry

This term’s inquiry unit, ‘HEPS and Beyond!’ will have students packing their imaginary suitcases and taking adventures through Australia and its neighbours to learn more about the world around them. We started off the week by thinking about what we already know about Australia and diving into our ‘wonderings’ which will help to guide this exciting unit. Check out our ‘Explorers’ display the next time you are in the classroom!
