Level 2

Level  2

Week 1

In the last part of term 2, students in Level 2 have been working on writing persuasive pieces to persuade others in the school community, especially the principal, that they should be able to change a school rule or expectation. After drafting their persuasive pieces, they used computers to format their ideas into PowerPoint slides and videoed themselves reading out their reasons for making changes around the school. These were shared with other students and parents in an open afternoon.

Some of the amazing persuasive pieces centered around:

  • Listening to Music: Students presented research showing how music can improve focus and productivity. They advocated for the benefits of individual choice in creating a conducive learning environment.
  • Bringing Own Devices: Students emphasized the importance of personalized learning and how using their own devices can cater to different learning styles and preferences, ultimately enhancing their educational experience.
  • Mobile Phones: Students argued that allowing mobile phones in school could enhance safety measures in case of emergencies. They also highlighted how mobile phones can be used as educational tools for research and learning beyond the classroom.
  • Uniforms: Students debated the impact of uniforms on self-expression and individuality. They discussed how relaxed clothes could promote creativity with individual expression.
  • Eating and Drinking in Class: Students advocated for the ability to eat and drink in class based on individual needs for nutrition; promoting a healthy and accommodating learning environment.
  • Sharing Food: Students discussed the social aspect of sharing food during school times, fostering relationships and inclusivity among peers.
  • Early Dismissal and more play time: Students presented reasons for the flexibility of leaving school earlier than 3:30pm, such as accommodating extracurricular activities, family commitments, or personal circumstances, and opportunities to socialise in a healthy physical and social manner in the playground.

All students in Level 2 videoed themselves passionately reading their reasons to change school rules. They used their Inquiry learning time to develop their arguments and then showcased their finished Power Point projects in a sharing afternoon with their peers, parents and community members.

We want to express our gratitude to all families for their continued partnership in supporting our students. You all turned up to make this learning experience authentic during our showcase afternoon. Thank you for being an essential part of your child’s learning.
