What's Been Happening?

Year 6 Aged Care visits

As part of the St Cecilia's leadership program, the Year 6 students visit one of the local aged care homes. We have had two groups visit so far, with two more visits to go. The Year 6's did a fantastic job of chatting to the residents, discussing schooling, careers, sport, life when they were young and much more. This week Raphael did an impromptu piano performance, requested by a resident, which delighted the residents.

Year 3 Celebrating the Olympics in Paris

Year 3 absolutely loved our French/ Olympics Day held last Monday! It would be too hard to decide on a favourite part, but we all enjoyed the Torch relay, John’s sharing about the Commonwealth Games torch, the crepe pop up cafe, Dancing with David and the fencing display.

Merci Beaucoup, Madame Cecile and Mrs Aldcroft!!

Choir News

On Monday, 12th August the St. Cecilia's Senior Choir participated in the Monash Youth Music Festival. They sang two choral pieces for a large audience and adjudicator,  competing against several other schools.

I am very excited to announce that we placed third in the competition, receiving the honourable mention from the adjudicator!  The Senior Choir has worked very hard, particularly this Term, to get the songs ready. I could not be happier with the way all students sang and represented the school and their fantastic achievement on the day.

Some Writing from Grade 2

Here is a taste of some of the powerful writing that is produced by some of our Year 2 Students. We are so impressed and proud of their efforts.

A true friendship

One  lovely spring sunrise there awoke a tree that could move! His name was Oak. “ Chirp chirp,’’ sang the birds as they landed on Oaks' arm. A truck rumbled by as it dropped off another beautiful tree, her name was Lee. “I think she likes you.’’ the birds whispered to Oak as she turned to look at him. Oak smiled and waved.

Months turned into a year.  Soon it snowed and Lee threw a snowball at him and laughed. A year turned into two…into  three and the trees grew old.  Lee sighed “We can still make our wish but only with a risk’’

Suddenly Oak noticed a big red cross on Lee’s trunk! ‘’Ahh’’screamed Lee.’ “Look there is a mark on you too.’’ Oak leaned as far as he could towards her. It was at last Oak and Lee could finally touch hands and kiss as they had their last few seconds on earth together.

Flowers flew around them as they  fell to the ground. And they always loved each other.

Together at last

“Chirp chirp!” twittered birds as they flew onto the branch of a tall tree named Redwood. Later in the day a truck came and planted a tree in the ground nearby. She was called Birch. After she was planted she blew a flower towards him. He smiled a lot.

Throughout the seasons they played with each other. In Autumn their leaves fluttered to the ground. In Winter it became snowy so Birch threw a snowball at Redwood. “Ha ha! Got you!” laughed Birch as Redwood started to cheer up. By Spring their leaves grew back. “Our leaves are growing back!” cried Redwood.

But they still couldn’t touch each other! One day Redwood woke up and to his surprise he saw a red cross on Birch! “You have a cross on your bark!” screamed Birch. “You too!” screamed Redwood.

Before they were cut down they reached as far as they could. Their roots were coming out of the ground! Miraculously, they got to touch and spend the last few seconds on earth together. The seeds of Birch’s flowers fluttered in the wind and grew into new trees.
