The 2024 Northwest Tour was a brilliant success as voted by the majority of students and staff (via feedback survey held last week). Apart from the torrential rain the first two days, the weather was spectacular as were the vistas in each place we visited. The food delivered by the kitchen crew, along with many student helpers, was amazing and plentiful. (Kitchen staff reported that the students ate twice as much on camp as they do at school).
The majority of students showed maturity in the way they worked and played together, helped out in the kitchen, packed up and down and showed great respect to the public. Special mentions to Brody Lia, Jade Taylor, Danny Bult and Tristan Dyer who were helping out daily.
Many students voted that Coral Bay was the best part of the trip as they did not have to set up and pack down camp so regularly, nor spend time in the bus driving. Others loved Karajini National Park, the Tom Price hike and the mine tour as well but didn't like spending time driving to these places. (Teleportation anyone?)
We have already begun planning for next year based on the student feedback. If any parents would like to provide feedback, please don't hesitate to call me.
Teachers and Residential staff have noticed an increase in students arriving back to College on Monday morning, many of them at 8:00am when they should be starting class. The College guidelines state that, "Students driving themselves back to the College after leave, must return to the College by 7:30pm on Sunday night."
Residential staff are often having to follow up leave recorded on REACH both Sunday night and Monday morning which takes us away from the students who require our care. Unfortunately, students are arriving no ready for school and even often require showers before heading off to class which disrupting other students learning.
Returning Sunday night allows for preparation, good sleep and a great start to the working week. As we are equipping our young people with the skill set to join the work force, we are asking parents to support their students to be back in boarding on Sunday night, not rocking up late on Monday morning, which would not be tolerated in the workplace.
The Consent2Go for the College ball and the accompanying QR code has been sent out to all parents and students and we are still awaiting a number of responses. Please check your emails for the Consent2Go and accompanying information. Please don't hesitate to call if you cannot find the emails. The College requires the QR code information as to how your son or daughter are leaving the Ball. It promises to be a great evening.
