Another fortnight of dodging showers, cold and windy days, and some sunshine in between. We've been tailing, vaccinating, spraying, driving, washing muddy machinery, slaughtering, and trying to keep our pigs warm and toasty.
If you are displaying symptoms of a cold or flu (or feel as though you might be getting sick), please let our staff know so you do not enter our piggery. Respiratory illnesses are very easily transmissible from people to pigs and from pigs to people. With the weather so cold and damp, the immune system of our vulnerable pigs (piglets, farrowing sows, and weaners) is lowered, which makes it easier for them to contract any illness that may be introduced into the piggery.
We have a number of Farm excursions this term (some mixed in with class time), so we encourage students to maintain the appropriate uniform for these events. Nothing promotes our school more to the community/public than polite, well presented and interested students. These excursions are often one of the best ways to soak up industry-current information and create contacts with industry representatives. If you are present at any of these events, make the most of the opportunity!
This is a huge day on our calendar. Students interested in being in particular areas on Farm for Open Day, please let our staff know so they can add you to their list! We can't guarantee you'll get the spot you want, but we won't know you're interested unless you let us know. There is a lot to do in lead up to Open Day, and the day itself can be quite hectic, so it's always better to be in an area you enjoy.
10 and 11 August - Luke Bretschneider, Riley Isbister, Hilcke Wehmeyer, Beau Waters
17 and 18 August - Kade Smith, Jackson Stockdale, Kayah Bishop, Taya Winsor, Ryan Ward, Lincoln Cannon
