Dear SJV Families,

Over the past two weeks we have had many whole school activities which the students have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of. Key events such as Confirmation Family night, Confirmation commitment Mass, Grandparents and special Friends morning, Prep to Year 4 disco, School Musical rehearsals and 100 days of Prep celebrations. These are all very exciting and wonderful opportunities for our students.

Building Project / Capital Grant 2025 - $2.4 million dollars

In exciting news, Tim Richardson our local MP joined us for a special assembly to announce that SJV has secured a $2.4 million dollar grant to demolish the existing administration block and construction of a new administration block and associated areas (basketball court area and some play equipment). This is wonderful news and we are incredibly grateful to have this support and improve our buildings here at SJV. This grant will enable us to complete stage 1 of our Masterplan and include a new heart of the school which is the play area outside the Year 2 classrooms. Please see below drawings of the proposed design.

I would personally like to thank the School Advisory Council of Romesh Rodrigo - Chairperson, Danielle Almiento, Chris Murray,  Nathan Viviano, Julie Lane, Niki Kirkby and Kirsty Zarifopoulos for their support and advice in obtaining the grant and Jill Hannan for her tireless work with the application process. I will continue to update the community of the progress of this exciting build throughout the remainder of the year.

Grandparents / Special Friends Day

Last Thursday we celebrated our annual ‘Grandparent’s / Special Friends Day’.  The Grandparents and special friends visited the classrooms and joined in some activities with their grandchild/children. A highlight on the day was celebrating Mass in the Church. It was a wonderful atmosphere and what was particularly impressive was the singing during the Mass. A special thanks to the PFA for organising the morning Tea and to the staff for arranging the activities.

St John Vianney Feast Day

Next Monday the 5th August we will be celebrating our Feast Day with an Olympic twist. Please see below for details:

  • 8.40am: All Year 6 students need to be at school for their Graduation photo. Full Winter Uniform. This will be taken promptly at 8.45am.
  • 9.00am: Feast Day Paraliturgy in the MPR, all are welcome to attend
  • 9.30am: Olympic Tabloid Sports. Students will  move through rotation activities in family groups doing sports related activities. One activity involves students making a 'gold medal' with a Marie biscuit, yellow icing and lollies. If your child can not have one of these components, please contact the office by Friday afternoon.

All children may wear green and gold clothing or school uniform with green and gold accessories. Year 6 students must come in their school uniform and may bring a change of clothes in their bag.

Confirmation

The students in Year 6 have been very busy in preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Bishop Tony Ireland came to visit the candidates on Tuesday and was very impressed with our students' knowledge. The Confirmation will take place this Sunday the 4th of August at 1pm. Please keep those students in your prayers.

Staffing News

In staffing news, Rachel McAllister  has decided to resign from her position as Japanese and PE teacher to focus on herself and persue other interests. Rachel will not be lost to the SJV community and will continue in a CRT capacity when available.

I am happy to announce that Mrs Dominique Monotti will teach PE for the remainder of the year and Mrs Pip Cahill will teach Japanese. Dominique is currently taking Year 3/4EL and teaching PE part time at Stella Maris in Beaumaris. Pip is currently teaching part time at St Peter's and has taught Japanese to the junior grades there.  I am sure that you will all make them feel both welcomed here at SJV.

On behalf of the SJV community, I would like to thank Rachel for her tireless efforts with the PE and Japanese programs and wish her all the best for the future.

School Fees

This is just a reminder that  all school fee accounts are due by the 16th of August. If you are experiencing any difficulties with making any of these payments, please make sure that you contact me on principal@sjvparkdale.catholic.edu.au to organise a time to discuss.

Parents Battle of the Bands

SAVE THE DATE: Friday 2nd of August

Our school’s Parents Band, Yard Duty, is participating with a number of other local primary schools including Sandringham PS, Sandringham East PS, St Mary’s, Hampton PS, Parkdale PS and Patterson Lakes PS in the 2024 Bayside Parents Battle of the Bands on Friday, 2nd August at Lucky 13 Garage in Moorabbin.

The funds raised are used to expand the performing arts/music education programs and help improve facilities for participating schools. It is also a great opportunity to connect and foster relationships with the other school communities. All proceeds will be redistributed pro-rata of parents’ attendance/number of tickets sold by each school.

The real winners are the schools that sell the most tickets!  It is a fun night of great music and quality entertainment - legendary if you ask previous crowds!

2025 Prep Enrolments

Our Requests for School Tours are continuing with many booking times to come and visit our wonderful school!

We are continuing the process of enrolling 2025 Prep students. If you know of anyone who is considering enrolling at the Foundation (Prep) level or any other year level, please encourage them to come and take a look and get in quick as places are filling fast. Families can book a school tour by contacting Nicole in our front office or scanning the QR code or book online on the SJV Website. Our enrolments are open to Catholic and non-Catholic students. Enrolment forms can also be downloaded from the school website or collected from the office.  We have been delighted with the highly encouraging response to the 2025 enrolment application process.

Reminders

  • Dogs - Please note that for the safety and wellbeing of all members of our community, no dogs are permitted inside the school grounds and they must not be left unattended tied up at the gates. Adult supervision and holding of the leash is so important around vulnerable places such as schools.  We love dogs but we do have to take care of all members of our community.
  • Bikes and Scooters - Please walk bikes and scooters when moving through the school grounds.
  • Punctuality - It is expected that all students are to be at school by no later than 8.45am and not any time up to 9am. From 8.45am to 9am is crucial for students to get themselves organised, start the day with prayer, take the roll and ready to commence their day promptly. Formal lessons begin at 9am. Any child who arrives at or after 9am is to be signed in at the office by a parent/guardian. I ask all parents to make sure that you adhere to these times.
  • The next newsletter/update will be shared on Thursday the 1st of August.

Regards
