Dear Parents and Friends,
Well we are certainly having a cold spell at the moment, the wind is very icy!! Please make sure your children come to school with their jumpers but also a coat if they are feeling the cold outside. I know I have to rug up!! The weather has certainly bought out the lurgies! Please keep your child/ren at home if they are unwell as there are a lot of infectious colds and flus going around. If your child is sick please remember to ring the office or email Tracey so we can mark the roll correctly.
What a wonderful morning our students had working with their Grandparents or Grand Friends. We started the day with a lovely liturgy - thanks Jodie and her team of students who presented at the liturgy. They all did such a wonderful job and read so beautifully. Then our visitors went off to different classrooms to spend time with their grandchildren/special friends where they participated in a Kahootz quiz about the Olympics and created a family shield. The shields are being displayed in the foyer of the school so pop in and see the creative art! We finished the morning with a beautiful morning tea consisting of scones with jam and cream and little cakes. The children were a little jealous that they were not joining their grandparents/grand friends for morning tea!
Thank you to all the grandparents/grand friends who attended - you certainly bought smiles to us all.
We received this lovely email from a satisfied family.
Hi Wendy,
A big thankyou to you and all your staff for organising such a wonderful day for the kids and especially the Grand Parents. My parents had a lovely time and said they were very well looked after.
We have started our transition program for our Foundation 2025 students beginning with our Get To Know You Meetings. It has been nice to spend a bit of time with our new students to hear what they are looking forward to next year. Some of the children are excited to be at school with their brothers or sisters but some are very excited to play on the playground.
If you have not booked in a time for the Transition program can you please do so as soon as possible.
After the Get To Know You Meetings we have “Storytime” where the children come to school and participate in a story and activity session. This is on Thursday 12 September at 2.00pm or Friday 13 September at 9am. While the children are busy doing school work parents are welcome to stay and enjoy a cuppa in the hall to get to know other families and for our ‘old’ families to welcome ‘new’ families to our wonderful St Brigid’s Community. Invitations to Storytime will be sent out next week.
We still have some Principal tours coming up - the next one is Thursday 15th August so if you know of anyone who is still thinking about schools please let them know about the tour! If the dates do not suit please contact the office to arrange a different time.
It was nice to hear feedback from parents, teachers and students about the Student Led Conferences. The teachers were so proud of their students as to how well they could speak about their work. They were all so very excited to share their work with their parents. The children certainly worked hard last semester and we are so proud of what they have achieved.
This very important day was celebrated on Tuesday with our Foundation students all of a sudden looking decidedly older - it was like they aged overnight! Check out our photos of the ‘old’ Foundation students. They finished the day with a wonderful afternoon of fun and games during their camping experience. They made their own afternoon tea and finished the night with a celebration cake which was enjoyed by all.
Samuel: My favourite part was eating cake- it was yummy!
Olivia: My favourite part was taking the old photos.
Joshua: I liked eating cake too!
Lily: My favourite part was playing with my friends.
Don’t forget to join us for Assembly on Friday 9 August where our Foundation students will share with the school all the amazing learning they have done so far! Assembly starts at 2.15pm in the hall.
Today we had the pleasure of some Year 10 students coming to visit our Year 3 - 6 children. As part of a unit of work focused on entrepreneurship at the colledge, the Year 10's are completing a project called $20 Boss. As part of this project the Year 10 students are to create, market and sell a product or experience. They came to our school for our students to complete a survey about their likes and dislikes for them to tailor their products or experiences. We will then go to Mordialloc College for the Market day where our students will be able to purchase items and experiences (Date TBC). Any profit the students make will be donated to a charity. St Brigid's have requested the charity be C.O.T.S. (Christmas on the Streets), a not for profit charity based in Melbourne, supporting the homeless.
We welcome back Emma (Josh Year 6) who is coming to school on a Wednesday afternoon to complete her Duke of Edinburgh volunteer work. It is so lovely to have Emma back with us!
We welcome Seb (Sienna, Year 4) who is also coming back to St Brigid’s to complete some work experience. Seb will be with us later in August.
On Wednesday staff completed the annual Risk2Learn training which is our evacuation training. This is completed annually and we have an evacuation practice each term.
Next weeks staff will be completing our annual First Aid training.
Our Book Week is quickly approaching - I hope you have been thinking about your costume! I wonder if you will be able to guess what the teachers are dressing up as? Hint - Magic is in the air!
Our annual Book Fair is back commencing on Monday 12th August (the week before Book Week). Children will go with their class to write up a ‘wish list’ of some books they may like to purchase. There is no obligation to buy but we do receive 20% of commission to purchase books to update our library resources. The Book Fair has always been a major fundraiser for our school.
Our next School Advisory Council meeting will be held on Wednesday 14th August at 7.00pm. All are welcome to attend.
Year 7 2026 applications to both St Bede's and Kilbreda College close on Friday 16th August. Please make sure you have your applications completed by the due date.
After careful consideration, our Parent Social Night which was to be held on Saturday 7th September has been cancelled, due to lack of numbers. Many thanks to the SB Squad who worked hard to try and get this night off the ground.
Have a lovely weekend and stay warm.
