Music News

Senior Music students are currently in the final stages of preparing performances and compositions for their last internal assessment of the year. Many boys who study Senior Music are also heavily involved in the College co-curricular music program and we encourage them to utilise these skills in the classroom. Here is an example of this idea in action: a performance by the Blue and Gold string quartet (Jesse Pattel-Brown, Sam Wilcox, Arran Abraham and Oliver Betts) which was used for Internal Assessment 1 last semester. They are performing Éléganté by Susan Day.

Visual Art News

Year 11 Visual Art students had the opportunity to listen to guest speaker, John Graham who is a professional collector of kitsch, comics and popular culture items. He spoke to the students about how despite studying for a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Queensland and beginning his working life as a scientist, his hobby of collecting (mainly comics and pop culture figurines) turned into a full-time career and he has been making a living from buying and selling rare collectables for the past 20 years. The students were interested to hear that his biggest sale was a metal R2D2 moneybox which he sold on eBay for $ 10,000.00 to an American buyer. John’s collection of objects is the focus for a range of artworks students are currently developing through painting, photography and mixed media techniques and will form part of their experimental folio for the current Year 11 unit of work, “Art as Code”.
