The subject changes window is currently open for students in Years 9 and 10 who have decided to change elective subjects. If your son would like to change his subjects, please encourage him to visit the Academic Care Office (located under the Senior Library).
All subject changes need to be completed and submitted by Wednesday 17 July.
All SET plan interviews for our current Year 10 students and parents/carers should have now been either completed or booked for this week. If this is not the case, please contact curriculum@marash.qld.edu.au so we can organise a time to complete.
We believe that education is a collaborative effort, and we are grateful for the unwavering support of our parents and the wider community. PTS interviews are an important part of your son’s educational journey. One that allows for a time to reflect on his strengths, but also discuss opportunities for areas of growth and improvement. To ensure timely feedback and discussion we will be offering PTS online on Monday 12 August (Week 6). Please keep an eye out for when booking times open in the coming weeks.
Congratulations to Year 9 and 10 students who received Academic Achievement Awards for Semester 1, 2024. These awards will be presented to students on Wednesday during the College assembly. Parents of award recipients have been contacted via email and invited to attend if they wish. Award recipients will be acknowledged in the newsletter next week.
Year 11 Optimus and Years 5-8 Academic Achievement Awards will be presented during the Week 4 College assembly.
The Term 3 Assessment Schedules for each year level will be released to students later this week. This can be located in Student Café. Your son is encouraged to download this schedule and transfer assessment dates to his College Diary.
We encourage our boys to best prepare for these assessments by studying each day. The College Diary outlines the minimum expectations for homework, revision, and study across Years 5-12:
Year 5: 40 minutes inclusive of reading
Year 6: 40-60 minutes inclusive of reading
Year 7: 60 – 80 minutes
Year 8: 60 – 90 minutes
Year 9: 90 – 120 minutes
Year 10: 120 – 150 minutes
Year 11 and 12: 180 – 240 minutes.
Students are encouraged to create a study and homework schedule each week, so that this time is managed effectively.
Throughout Student Monitoring week this week, boys will dedicate time in Pastoral Group to reflect on their academic performance in Semester 1. This reflective practice is not just about identifying areas for improvement but also celebrating their achievements and understanding what strategies worked well for them.
A key component of this week is the formulation of academic and wellbeing goals for Semester 2. These goals will be thoughtfully crafted to ensure that each student is set up for success in the coming term. Students will record their goals in our learning analytics platform, providing a structured and accessible way for them to track their progress.
We also encourage parents to be actively involved in Student Monitoring Week. Engage your son in conversations about the goals he has set in the Learning Analytics platform.
This term, all Year 9 students will have the chance to discuss their performance and pathway as they approach their senior years of schooling.
The booking system for these interviews opened on Thursday 11 July at 7:00pm and will close at 7:00pm on Thursday 18 July. It isn’t compulsory for parents to attend but you are most welcome. Interviews will go for 10 minutes.
All Year 9 students should have completed their subject choices by now. If your son has not completed this, please encourage him to make these choices as soon as possible.
Please find here a list of Old Boys who are available to tutor your son outside of school hours. This list can also be located on the parent portal or via this link. Please note it is the parent’s responsibility to organise and liaise tutoring times with the Old Boys.
As Internal assessment wraps up within the coming weeks, it is now time to ensure the equipment necessary for External exams is ready. The list of prescribed equipment can be found here - External assessment equipment list (qcaa.qld.edu.au) - and must be in order before the External practice exam block (Mock external exams) in Week 8.
There will be no Year 12 Night Study Session this week.
