Assistant Principals' Report
Positive Learning Routines
Last term, we introduced our positive learning routines across the college. Our classes have been learning and practising positive learning routines with a focus on the entry routine. Teachers taught students about our expectations about the way that students enter our classrooms. Students should be on time, have their learning materials with them, line up before class and enter the classroom calmly and quietly.
We have explicitly taught our students these routines and will continue to remind them of these expectations as required. We do ask for the support of our families in trying to ensure that students arrive to school on time in the mornings, with enough time to get the materials and line up before class at 8.45am. This term, we will be focusing on other classroom routines relating to the body of the lesson and the expectations regarding appropriate in-class behaviours especially when transitioning between tasks.
Absence process
Attendance at school is important; however, we understand that, at times, your child will need to have time away from school. We kindly request if your child is unwell that you explain the absence on Compass and provide any relevant documentation, such as a medical certificate, to the appropriate administration office.
Uniform
A reminder that we now have our new uniform chronicle that will now notify parents when students are issued a uniform infringement. We have done this to improve communication with our families and are requesting your support. Please be reminded that students should wear black leather lace up shoes with their academic uniform, and runners (not street shoes) with their PE uniform.
Non-Hazel Glen uniform items such as long sleeve tops, hoodies and leggings are not permitted to be worn with the uniform. Students are encouraged to ensure that they have the shell jacket, woolen jumper or blazer if they are looking for items to keep them warm over the cooler months. Students can choose whether they wear winter or summer uniform, however, we ask that they do not mix uniform, and that they don't wear their PE uniform unless they have a PE class during the day.
There has been some confusion about the old spray jacket and when it can be worn. This jacket is being phased out and is no longer available to purchase. We understand that many students still have this item, and it can be worn with the PE uniform until the end of 2024. The old spray jacket is not permitted to be worn with the academic uniform.
Year 10 Work Experience
A reminder to our families that all year 10 students will be participating in the Work Experience Program during Week 5 May 13th-17th. Work Experience provides valuable opportunities for students to explore potential career paths and gain practical skills. By participating in this program students can develop a better understanding of the professional world and make informed decisions about their future. Students who do not secure a work experience placement will be required to attend a Career Development program at school. If you have any questions, please reach out to Ms Frances Galea.
