Head of Secondary Years' Report

Welcome back to Term 2! I hope all of our students and families had the opportunity to re-energize over the break and are ready for another busy term.

Athletics Carnival

We had a wonderful start to this term with the Athletics carnival on Thursday 18th April. This event was well attended by our Secondary students and we were very fortunate that the weather was on our side. We had a range of traditional track and field events alongside some novelty events and it was lovely to see students of all ages participating. Big thanks to Mr Gibson and the PE team for all of their hard work in organising a fun day.

Uniform

As you may be aware, our School Council is undergoing a review of our current P-12 uniform. Thank you to families who completed the survey or participated in our parent forums last term. We have reviewed the feedback from families, and this term we will listen to the opinions of our students. Once all of this data is collected, we will follow a process to review all current uniform items and seek feedback on any items that are proposed to be added or removed.

ANZAC Day Assembly

We finished our week with the students this week, with our ANZAC day assemblies on Wednesday.  It was an honour to be able to gather together as a school community to commemorate the significance of the occasion, pay our respects and express our gratitude to the brave men and women who have served our country.

Our ANZAC assemblies provided a time for us to reflect on the sacrifices made by the ANZAC's and others who have fought to defend our freedoms and way of life. It was also a time to acknowledge our current service men and women who dutifully serve our country today. During our assembly, we commemorated ANZAC Day with songs from the Voices of Hazel Glen and Primary Years Choir. Our College Captains and Vice Captains shared poems, readings and the Doreen War Memorial Honor Roll while our Primary Captains participated by reading our Acknowledgment of Country and laying a wreath.

In his tribute, our College principal, Mr Stockwell reminded us to take a moment to consider the lessons we can learn from the ANZAC spirit. The values of mateship, courage, sacrifice, and loyalty. It is our responsibility as a school community to honour the legacy of the ANZACs by embodying these values in our own lives. Let us strive to be good citizens, to show kindness and compassion to others, and to stand up for what is right and just. Let us remember the sacrifices of the ANZACs not just on this day but every day, and let us ensure that their memory lives on.

I would like to commend our students for the way that they conducted themselves during these assemblies.

Today has been a curriculum day for students, however, our teachers are hard at work undertaking professional learning. These days are important for our teachers to learn from the experts and each other so that we can continue to improve and meet the needs of our students. We all look forward to taking our learnings from today and putting them into action in the classroom.
