Learning in Action
Reading:
Last week our reading lessons had an intercultural connection where students listened to informative texts about China. Students spent the week summarising different topics about schooling, living, food and celebrations and made connections to their own lives. This week students have continued to summarise a new non-fiction text.
Preview for Learning:
Students will be learning how to identify the target audience for persuasive texts.
Writing:
Students have practised writing sentences that include pronouns to replace names of subjects and objects. Students have planned, edited and published an informative piece on Lysterfield Primary School.

Maths:
Last week students used maps to describe the location of various objects and their position. We finished our addition unit last week and students explored different worded problems, independently applying taught strategies to solve the equations. This week we began our subtraction and area unit.
Preview for Learning:
Students will be learning two new subtraction strategies; counting up to find the difference and using a number line to find the difference.
Students will be using different units of measurement to find the area of shapes.
Inquiry:
Students learnt about Melbourne Airport and the 12 Apostles as constructed landmarks. Our intercultural study was on China and Germany. Students continued to explore maps, looking at titles, borders, legends and symbols.
Wellbeing:
This fortnight students looked at stress management and identifying coping skills and self-calming strategies they can apply.
