Dear Sacred Heart Families & Friends,
A very warm welcome to you all to the start of Term 2. After a restful Easter and holiday period, it is wonderful to be back!
We especially welcome our students back to school for another busy term, filled with many rich learning opportunities and experiences. It was lovely to see the extra effort children and families went to for photo day last Thursday. The children presented themselves with care and pride in their Sacred Heart uniform. On Monday next week, a photographer will be spending the day at school to take photos for our new website. We look forward to seeing some of the beautiful images, some of which have already been captured on the Year 5 Portsea Camp.
On 25 May, the Church around the world will mark its first ever World Children’s Day. The theme for the very first World Children’s Day is ‘Behold, I make all things new’ (Rev 21: 5).
At Sacred Heart Primary School, we constantly remind ourselves that our children are at the very centre of our purpose, vision and mission. They are our 'why'. This is beautifully captured in the words of our very own 'Image of the Child'.
At Sacred Heart, we believe that the child is at the centre of all we do.
We recognise that each child is unique and thrives when provided with meaningful experiences through which to flourish.
Children are curious and active in their learning when given opportunities to ask questions, discover, investigate and reflect.
We believe in educating the whole child to become confident and creative, with a passion for lifelong learning and an optimism for their future.
Sacred Heart Educators 2020
Pope Francis has shared a message for children everywhere, telling them they are ‘precious in God’s eyes’ (Isa 43: 4). He also urges them to remain close to Christ, saying that ‘it is not enough to be united with one another; we need, above all else, to be united with Jesus. From him we receive a great deal of courage.’
Through opportunities of togetherness and prayer, our students at Sacred Heart connect with God. As Pope Francis says ‘Prayer fills our hearts with light and warmth; it helps us to do everything with confidence and peace of mind. Through prayer, we will always feel that Jesus is close to us.’
I remain yours in faith and gratitude,
Kaylene Carlin

🌟 YEAR 5 SCHOOL CAMP TO PORTSEA 🏕️
In the first week of Term 2, the Year 5 students travelled to the Mornington Peninsula and stayed at the Portsea Camp. Portsea Camp is a beach adventure camp which develops:
The students had a wonderful experience engaging in rich activities that included snorkelling, canoeing, high ropes, giant slide and many more. The images below capture more than words can say all that our students did!
As I wrote about in the last newsletter, the main entry doors to the school hall have been out of action since the end of 2023. It has taken some time to identify the cause. After some investigation by builders and engineers, it has been determined that the eastern side of the hall near the kitchen has dropped causing the door to come out of alignment.
Over the school holiday period, builders worked on the hall, largely focusing on drainage issues causing significant dampness under the eastern side of the hall and around the footings. Unfortunately efforts to replace some of the stumps were not successful due to the large amount of rain leading up to the work being done. It is hoped now with the drainage issues rectified and some time allowed to dry the area, the work will be done in the next few months over a weekend period. We look forward to the work being completed so that we can focus on upgrading the hall with a new kitchen area and new flooring surfaces throughout the entire hall for our students and families to enjoy.
