Senior Merricks Camp
In Week 3 of Term 1 the Year 5’s and 6’s went to Camp Merricks. At the Camp we did many things such as snorkelling, surfing, crate stacking, orienteering, kayaking and more. A popular activity we did in our spare time was playing in the Gaga Pit. During our time at Camp we watched The Smurfs, played a giant game of tag and Mr Hamill came and told us stories. From what 6B said the most popular activity was surfing. It was such a fun camping experience!

In Week 3 of Term 1 all the Year 5 and 6’s went to Merrick’s Camp in Point Leo.
The cabins had around 2 bunk beds which had four beds.
The activities of camp included surfing, snorkel theory in the pool and then either that day or the next you would go down to the pier and snorkel, if you were lucky you would have seen stingrays and weedy sea dragons. More of the activities included craft stacking, scavenger hunt, archery, canoeing and teamwork activities followed by lots of food. I really enjoyed Merrick’s camp and I definitely recommend going there.

Year 3 Adam Wallace Incursion
Last Thursday, students in Year 3 were so lucky to have the amazing author and illustrator, Adam Wallace, visit for an incursion. Each Year 3 class participated in a fun, interactive Writing and Cartooning Workshop. Adam talked about his books, discussed his writing techniques, and then worked with the students to come up with some great writing ideas. He then guided the students through some cartooning exercises before every child drew an awesome picture to take home. Adam also kindly gave every student a signed copy of one of his books and some books for our amazing new library.

Writing in Year 1
This term the year one students are going to write a narrative. We used the school yard to go for an explore and describe our school setting with lots of fabulous adjectives. Tickly bark, strong smelling, oily leaves, rough, peach coloured paths, sandy, hard, smooth seats. Wow there’s nothing like being immersed in the environment to learn!
The year one students are learning how to classify 2D shapes by using terms such as vertices and edges. The students love learning by constructing and observing. That way those who are ready for more intricate learning can explore to their own level of understanding, as Tyler has done here.
