Anzac Day in the Art Room

Students across our school reflected on what Anzac Day means to them. Some students shared that they had family members who were part of the armed forces, and some that had fought in wars of the past. We noted that Anzac Day was a time to feel sombre, sad and grateful.

Prep students read the text Anzac Ted and created potato prints of poppies and made playdough ‘Teds.’

Grade 1/2 students completed a guided drawing of Anzac Ted and coloured with oil pastels.

Grade 3/4 students reflected on The Ode “At the going down of the sun, And in the morning, We will remember them.”  They created magnificent sunrises and sunsets using oil pastels, then drew silhouettes of soldiers.

Grade 5/6 students explored the medium of charcoal and soft pastels to create sombre drawings of battlefields.
