Lightning Premiership Footy

Congratulation to our Chilwell Footy Team for their great effort in making it to the Grand Final at yesterday's Lightning Premiership! Despite losing by one goal, it was very lovely to see such great sportsmanship from both sides. All players should be proud of their efforts. Big thanks to all our parent helpers who cheered them on, and our Grade 5 and 6 teachers - Mrs Stynes, Ms Wieland, Elise and Jared - for their great efforts in making this day possible. Special thanks to David Villarosa for coaching the team.

Lightning Premiership Soccer

On Monday,  6th May Chilwell Primary students from years five and six represented our school in soccer for the Lightning Premiership.

The day was a huge success, with a display of excellent Chilwell team spirit, displaying great sportsmanship, positive support of each other and lots of celebration!

Chilwell B mixed team (Pictured above) played three games and won all, not conceding any goals to the opposing schools. There were some impressive soccer skills on display, and a lot of support by teammates for those who are still learning the game. The improvement and tenacity shown on the day was wonderful.

Chilwell A mixed team (pictured above) also played three games. Having won all, they went onto the Grand Final match against Rollins Primary School. After extra time, the teams had to go into penalty shoot outs. It was tense, our hearts were in our mouths, and the bus nearly left without us. But……Tom B snuck the winning goal past their defence and Chilwell were the victors of the day. Special mention to our unshakeable goal defender Madhav Nair who defended the goals valiantly. Of course it was an incredible team effort, and all our players fulfilled their roles, and we are off to Division for the next exciting round.

A big thank you to our fun and positive soccer parent helpers for the day – Marie Ginoski, Halina (Sebastian’s Nanna), Antoinette Crouch, Tiffany Start and Jane Bradby. These days cannot run successfully without your support.

Lightning Premiership Netball

On Monday 6th of May all Grade 5/6 students headed off to the Lightning Premiership Netball. We were lucky enough to be able to enter 3 teams and all had an incredibly successful day and should be very proud of their efforts. Big thank you to our parent helpers and additional support from Eloise Ritchie, Sherrie Kasper, Michael Johnston, Marissa Munday & Tara Mathuranayagam. These days cannot go ahead without your support and help so thank you very much!

The Chilwell Girls A team started off the day with a successful win over Fyans Park, South Geelong and Rollins. We then had 2 very exciting games with a loss to Manifold Heights. It was great to see them all work together and encourage one another to shorten the margin.

We then had another very exciting game against Hamlyn Banks where we snatched the win in the very last minute and won by 1 goal. With their incredible efforts throughout the day the girls ended up finishing at the top of their pool meaning we were through to the Grand Final where we played against Fyans Park. We could hardly hear a thing the crowd were so loud! Although we lost by 2 goals in the grand final, the girls should be very pleased with their efforts throughout the day and the way they improved every game!

The Chilwell Girls B & Chilwell Mixed team also had a very exciting, successful day – the highlight ending with a game versing one another! Chilwell Girls B team went through the whole day undefeated. From both teams their passes were great, shooting was amazing and defence was strong. Lead by their captains, Penny & Olivia M, Zaccy & Rumana the teams were ready.

At the end of the game the whistle blew and Chilwell Girls B team had won! They all shook hands and both teams were all smiles at the end of the game.

Chilwell Mixed team started the day with a draw against Manifold Heights to see who would go through to division finals and since it was a draw they replayed the match. While the crowd was cheering loud for Chilwell, they fell short by a couple of goals to Manifold Heights.

All teams should be very proud of their efforts throughout the day, I was very pleased to watch them improve as a team throughout each game and display great sportsmanship. Thank you again to all of our parent helpers and support staff and parents who came to watch throughout the day.

Lightning Premiership Teeball

It was a perfect autumn’s day, on Monday 6th May, two determined Chilwell teams went out to the Teeball Lightning Premiership. Just a short walk from school  St. Mary’s Oval and Geelong Cricket Ground.

Before teams separated for their first game, they both wished each other well with high fives, fist pumps and final hints and tips. It was game on!

             Team A:

A strong team, consisting of Harrison, Josh, Matthew C, Conor, Leo, Vincent, Angus, James H and Naushad, had a big determination to go all of the way. And what a way to start in their first game; Chilwell having a strong win against Hamlyn Banks 17 - 4.

Next up was Rollins: their form continued winning the game 21 - 11. Next was the biggest challenge: Manifold Heights. Both teams undefeated till this point of the day. Unfortunately, we came away with our first loss 20 - 25.

Our final opponent was Fyans Park. Persistent to go out on a win, that’s exactly what they did; 14 - 7.

At the end of the day, the team was happy with a 3-1 record and was proud of coming 3rd on the overall ladder. Congratulations to Manifold Heights making it through to Division as they defeated South Geelong in the Grand Final.

Team B:

It was a similar day for Team B, who consisted of Alek, Demosh, James H, Maksim, Tata, Kevin, Jay, Lucky, Jackson, Max and Calvin. Chilwell came out firing winning their first game 15 - 7 against South Geelong. The second game; a very close loss to again Manifold Heights losing 10 - 13. The final game was organised as a mixed friendly game where students were given the chance to improve on their skills whilst meeting and playing with other members from different schools.

Overall, both teams had success but fell short of coming out on top. It was great to see the skill develop over the course of the day, but the most impressive aspect was the high level of sportsmanship shown throughout both teams; leadership, encouragement, support and teamwork were all highlighted – strongly reflecting our school values!

Elsa G - Tennis

On Thursday the 18th of April I competed in the Divisional Tennis Competition. I won 3 matches out of 4 and made it through to Regionals. After a great day overall, despite some windy weather I had so much fun and I was super excited to go to Melbourne for the next round!

At the Regionals on 29th April, we got there early ready to go, I couldn't wait to play! At the beginning the rain started falling but luckily did not affect the tennis. I won 2 matches out of 4 and couldn't seem to make the finals. Although not getting through to the next round, I was still proud of my efforts and had a good time.

Grade 5/6 Rap Off

Last Thursday students nailed it with their talent and energy at the Grade 5/6 Rap Off. We were even lucky enough to see some excited performers at Assembly on Friday afternoon. Big thanks to Mrs Baker for organising it and to all participants and supporters!

Why don't rappers ever get lost?

Because they always follow the beat! 😂
