SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING CHALLENGE

The University of Newcastle, Australia issued a Science and Engineering Challenge to our Year 10 Science students today, in competition with other local schools.

 #sciengchallenge

Students completed numerous science and engineering challenges, earning points throughout the day.

Some examples of challenges included:

  •  Designing and building a bridge to hold increasing weight without failing.

  •  Designing and building a model polar research station with space and load bearing  constraints, wind proof and water catchment properties.

  •  Providing electricity to a city.

  •  Designing fish traps.

  •  Designing efficient wind turbines to generate speed and power.

  •  Job-juggle Scheduling.

  •  Design and build a glider.

  •  And sending  deciphering coded messages along fibre-optic rods.

Our students worked together as an extremely close team, encouraging, advising and cheering each other to succeed in each of their challenges. Ms. Deal and Mrs Muldoon were extremely proud of the way each of the students contributed and worked extremely hard to earn points for our school. It was a very close finish, and we came away with the runners-up position.

Well done to everyone!!

Thank you to the South Gippsland Bass Coast Local Learning & Employment Network and all the sponsors and volunteers who made this challenge possible. We are looking forward to having another chance at the win next year!!
