THE VILLAGE

The Village: Supporting Student Wellbeing Together

At Korumburra Secondary College, we believe in the value of community and its power to support the health and wellbeing of our young people. The Village is here to support that belief. This space shares evidence-based strategies and celebrates the practical ways we work together—students, families, and staff—to create a positive, connected learning environment.

Building Positive Culture: Introducing Our Behaviour Matrix

Over the past few weeks, we’ve shared how simple, targeted initiatives like Mystery Student are helping shape positive behaviour in our Year 7–9 classrooms. These small steps are part of a larger picture. This term, we’re excited to be rolling out our School-Wide Positive Behaviour Matrix, which will guide how we teach, model, and acknowledge behaviour across our whole school.

At the heart of this matrix are four key values:

  • We are respectful

  • We are resilient

  • We are kind

  • We try our best

These values were developed in consultation with students, staff and the wider community and reflect the culture we’re proud to grow at KSC. They offer a clear, consistent framework for what positive behaviour looks like in different areas of school life—from the classroom to the yard, from excursions to assemblies.

This matrix isn’t just about setting expectations—it’s about supporting students to learn and live these values every day. Over the coming weeks, we’ll be introducing the matrix through lessons, reflections, and familiar initiatives like Mystery Student. You’ll also begin to see new tools and visual reminders in classrooms and common spaces to help reinforce these shared expectations.

Importantly, this framework will be supported by a range of recognition strategies to celebrate students who consistently demonstrate these values. Whether it’s through a quiet word, a classroom award, or public recognition, we’re committed to making sure our young people know their efforts are seen and valued.

By building a shared language around behaviour, we can continue to nurture a culture that is safe, supportive, and inclusive—where every student has the opportunity to do their best.

Stay tuned as we launch the matrix and share more about the exciting initiatives that will bring our values to life. Again, the evidence base behind supporting students in guiding them towards positive behaviours is linked below.
