YEAR 7 SOCCER
The Year 7 Girls and Boys Soccer Team braved some wintry weather on Friday 6th June to compete in the interschool competition. The students demonstrated exemplary sportsmanship, playing competitive and fair football for each of their three games. The best result of the day was the girls who managed a 0-0 draw, however the lack of wins didn't diminish the students enthusiasm. Well done to the students who had never played, who embraced a new challenge, and to the more experienced players who lead each side with kindness, passion and grit.
INTERSCHOOL SOCCER
The KSC SSV Inters Soccer team set out on a sunny Friday with a few players down, fielding a team of 10 players for the competition at Mary Mac on June 13.
Knowing they were up against full teams and their substitution benches, their strict instructions were to have fun, challenge every ball and respect the officials.
The first game was against Foster and our less experienced players were well supported on the back line to stop many shots taken by the opposition, with only 3 getting through by full time. Grace was our provided linesperson and did a great job calling offsides with confidence gained by recently qualifying as a referee.
With the game against Bass Coast Wonthaggi forfeited, we went straight into a game against Mary MacKillop, also with a strong line up and healthy substitution bench. This lively game was well-challenged by our players, with some excellent saves made by Talon and solid defence by Linc, Lockie, Ryder and Beau. Quinn dropped into goals and Phoenix retired from injury, leaving 9 players on the pitch. Brock and Jett held the midfield and Mitchell made some excellent runs on the wing and impressive tackles to win possession, but the team ultimately could not hold up against substitutions and a full team in the opposition.
The team gave the games their all and can be really proud of how they conducted themselves on and off the pitch. It was a treat for Mr Santilli and Ms Kennedy to watch the team rally and play their hearts out in adverse conditions!
WEEKEND SOCCER - GIPPSLAND SOCCER LEAGUE
"Forecasting very cold and wet conditions, GSL Representative Squads and their coaches headed to Albury-Wodonga in 6 teams. Students from KSC were in half of them - u12G, u14B and U14G.
Whilst our teams were not able to overcome the bigger leagues from Regional Victoria, we had several reach Semifinals.
More significantly, the Gippsland Soccer League was the recipient of the inaugural Corrie Koppen Fair Play Award, meaning that our rep squads embodied the "values of sportsmanship, respect and integrity throughout the tournament". Credit goes to the players and their coaches, of which our own Ms Myrid Bartlett was one.
