PE & Sports Update

Running Club
It's been a great year of running club with our average numbers around 60-65 every Wednesday morning. With the cold, wet and dark mornings, the move to the gym has been able to keep the club running. We've had a number of students receive their certificates for attending 20 running clubs and a huge number have received their 10 certificates.
Running club will take a short break during July and August but will be back again in September towards the end of Term 3 to celebrate the start of Spring. Thanks again to the House Captains who have committed to assisting each week.
Downball Champs
The buzz is the yard is palpable as we have been holding our Downball championships. Level 3 & 5 have completed their qualifying rounds and Level 4 will be early next week. To end the term we will have a championship round with the top 5 from each year level to playoff for the overall year level champion. Mr Perrin and I will use these results along with student attitudes to select our school team to represent at the Victorian Championships next term.
Term 3 Activities
Planning is underway with an action packed term full of different physical or sport activities spread across different year levels. These will include Bike riding, Touch footy, Basketball, Netball, Karate, Gymnastics, AFL and Athletics.

District Girls Soccer Day
On Wednesday the 18th of June, a team of girls from Jells park PS in Level 5 & 6 played in a girls soccer tournament. The girls on the team included Azariyah, Aanya, Ava, Claudia, Mikaela, Chelsea, Airlea, Tiffany, Aaradhya, Tennille , Alexis and Yuna.
We arrived at 9:15 am at Brentwood Reserve and got ready to play 7 x 20 minute games against other schools. Some schools have A & B teams but all teams gave it their all and played well.
We got warmed up and stretched ready to go!
As soon as the other schools arrived Mr Zach started telling everyone about the rules.
We played offside, fouls, free kicks, throw-ins, corners and penalties. All games were tough and challenging, but we managed to defeat every single team that we faced. Our easiest game was a game against Burwood East B with a win of 9 - 0. The toughest game we played was Burwood East A. It was our last game, thankfully they scored an own goal.
It was a fun experience. Only 5 girls played outside of school, so it was a fun opportunity for all girls, especially the girls who hadn’t played soccer before. We managed to come first place, and are lucky to play in the next level, division in term 3. In division the teams will be a lot harder, but we have a chance.
We would like to thank Mr. Zach and all the parent helpers for volunteering to help our team win and offer their time to give us this wonderful opportunity.
