Level 3 – My Family

Level 3 students have continued learning about the topic of family in Chinese. They drew their own family portraits and labelled each family member using Chinese Pinyin (the system used to represent Chinese pronunciation using English alphabet) and Chinese characters. Students also practised saying and writing the sentence “wǒ yǒu… 我有…” (I have…) to introduce their families in Chinese.

Level 4 – Guess Who Game

Level 4 students have been learning to describe facial features like freckles and moustaches, as well as clothing items such as hats and scarves in Chinese. They also practised using the question particle “ma 吗” to turn statements into yes-or-no questions. To apply their skills, students played the game of Guess Who in Chinese, asking and answering questions to identify different characters.

Level 5 – Our School

Level 5 students have continued learning about the topic of school in Chinese. They took part in a scavenger hunt around the school to find the bilingual signs created by last year’s Grade 5 students. Currently, they are making new signs that include Chinese Pinyin, Chinese characters, and English for our school facilities. Once completed, these signs will be displayed around the school—please feel free to check out the students’ work then!

Level 6 – Food and Drinks

Level 6 students voted on the food and drinks they wanted to learn about in Chinese. They have begun learning the names of these foods and drinks in Chinese. To help remember their new vocabulary, students created their own glossaries. Students also researched the Pinyin and Chinese characters for the foods and drinks they are most interested in. This activity enhances their understanding and supports their progress in learning Chinese.
